Troubleshoot A Magic Chef Wall Oven

Troubleshoot a Magic Chef Wall Oven

Magic Chef no longer produces new appliances, but they were once a popular brand, and many homes still feature a Magic Chef wall oven. Maytag acquired Magic Chef in 1986, according to John Mills' website, but the product designs remained the same. A variety of parts can break or malfunction, causing diminished heating or preventing the stove top burners from lighting or heating.

Instructions

1. Check that the oven is plugged into a wall outlet, and that the appropriate circuit breaker is not off. The Magic Chef Electric Range Care Guide explains this is the most obvious and easy-to-remedy cause of a nonworking oven. Also, Magic Chef ovens feature an oven lockout switch that can sometimes get tripped, and this switch will prevent the appliance from working until it is reset.

2. Measure the oven's actual temperature with a separate oven thermometer if the oven is burning or undercooking food. If the model uses natural gas, check the gas regulator with a device designed to measure its pressure, according to the Smith's RV Centre website. An electric model should have its heating element examined for debris that is possibly blocking the heat, such as a piece of aluminum foil.

3. Clean the burner ports on the stove top or inside the oven if flames are not produced in a gas-powered Magic Chef oven. These ports can become clogged with grease or food, according to Appliance411, but you can clean them with a toothpick.

4. Test the oven's ignition if it fails to switch on promptly. Both electric- and gas-powered Magic Chef ovens use ignition systems, and many of them are designed to be replaced regularly, according to Appliance411.

5. Look in the bottom of the oven for a small pilot light, if your Magic Chef oven features that type of ignition system. This light can go out due to a blockage in the supply pipe or in the burner port of the pilot light. A gust of wind could also extinguish the pilot too, according to the Smith RV Centre.

Uses For Dawn Soap

Making bubbles with Dawn dish soap is an easy project that kids love.

Dawn dishwashing liquid was first formulated in 1973 by Procter & Gamble. The brand has built a reputation of fighting grease quickly on dishes and serving as a multipurpose product. Although you can find many different uses online beyond cleaning dishes, many of these off-label uses of Dawn dishwashing liquid are not recommended by Procter & Gamble.

Clean Hands

Just as Dawn dish soap removes grease and dirt from dishes, it can clean dirty, greasy hands. Dawn has introduced several versions beyond its original formula that are specifically designed to help protect and maintain the skin of your hands. Many of Dawn's line of dishwashing soaps include antimicrobial ingredients to fight germs while washing hands.

Clean Greasy Stains

Many consumers use Dawn dish liquid in addition to, or as a replacement for, other products that pretreat and degrease laundry. Dawn operates in a similar way in the washing machine with laundry as it does when removing grease from dishes; the detergent surrounds the grease and helps the water rinse it away. Procter & Gamble has partnered Dawn's degreasing scrubbers with another of its products to create a version of Tide with Dawn.

Make Bubbles

An easy project the kids can help with is to make bubble liquid with Dawn dishwashing detergent. Mix 1/2 cup Ultra Dawn with 1/2 gallon warm water and 1 tbsp. glycerin. You can find glycerin at most drug stores or grocery stores. Lightly stir the mixture just until the ingredients combine, and scrape any foam from the top of the liquid. Dip in a bubble wand, and use the bubble solution as you would any commercial solution.

Rescue Wildlife

After both the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989 and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, Dawn dishwashing liquid was the cleanser of choice for injured and damaged wildlife. Dawn dissolved the thick crude oil's hold on fur and feathers so veterinarians could assess other damages and get the animals back to their normal lives.

What Are The Dangers Of Pvc Racks In A Dishwasher

Washing dishes in a PVC dishwasher may have harmful side-effects.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a thermoplastic polymer used in pipes, electric wires, ceiling tiles, clothing and in various electronic accessories. Certain additives to PVC like phthalates, vinyls and dioxins have been targeted by environmental organizations as being potential poisons that can affect the environment and human health. While many of these chemicals have been regulated and removed from PVC, older dishwashers with PVC may still have dangers.

Child Development

Phthalates have been connected to several different issues in childhood development. These PVC-related chemicals can shorten the duration of a pregnancy and lead to the premature development of breasts in girls. When toxic chemicals are exposed to a woman with child, her fetus can receive brain damage and a lack of development. Since children breathe, eat and drink more than adults, they may take in more contaminants if they are coming from the PVC in your dishwasher, according to the Center for Health, Environment & Justice (Reference 1).

Cancer

Some of the chemicals associated with PVC are known carcinogens or they are thought to be connected to cancer. Vinyl chloride is one of the key components of PVC and it is known to cause a rare form of liver cancer along with causing damage to the nervous system. The chemical is classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a known human carcinogen. Ethylene dichloride is another chemical released by PVC which may also damage the liver and the central nervous system. Dioxins can be formed when PVC is burned or melted and their highly toxic nature may cause cancer and damage the immune system.

Asthma

A study conducted by the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute showed that the incidence of PVC and floor moisture increased the risk of asthma in children. Another study showed a connection between adult-onset asthma and PVC flooring. The connection between moisture, which is frequently the environment within a dishwasher, and PVC is disconcerting when it comes to child respiratory health. If your family has a history of respiratory ailments, it may be best to not use PVC in your dishwasher racks.

Mental Disabilities

Chemical contaminants like those in PVC pipes may be connected to learning and developmental disabilities in children. Dioxins, lead, mercury and phthalates can be connected to the incidence of autism. A study documented in the Neurotoxicology journal showed that PVC may be directly connected with autistic spectrum disorders in children 6-8 years old.

The Dishwasher Check Valve Is Leaking In The Sink

If the check valve is causing water to back up into the sink, there's more malfunctioning than just the check valve. A broken check valve on its own won't cause water to back up. This indicates that a number of different components on your dishwasher have failed at the same time. Likely candidates are the inlet valve, which controls the flow of water into the dishwasher, and an improperly routed drain hose.

Dishwasher Information

Dishwashers, regardless of the make or the model, operate in a similar fashion. A valve inside the dishwasher opens to allow water into the machine. Once in the machine, the water mixes with soap. The dishwasher pump takes the water and pushes it through the dishwasher spray arm. As the water passes through the sprayer, it causes the arm to rotate and distribute the soapy water over the dishes. The dirty water is pumped out, and the cycle repeats, only this time using clean water. After the clean water is pumped out, a drying element inside the washer dries off the dishes.

Check Valves

The purpose of a check valve in a dishwasher is to keep water flowing only in one direction. In some washers, the check valve is nothing more than a simple rubber flap. The flap only opens outward, which prevents water from flowing back into the pipes. The purpose of a check valve is to prevent contamination of the municipal water supply if the water in the washing machine backs up and creates a siphoning action.

Working Safely

When performing any kind of work on the dishwasher, always turn off the electricity for the unit before doing anything else to prevent accidents. it's also a good idea to turn off the water supply valve, usually underneath the nearest sink, to the dishwasher to prevent leaks.

Replacing the Check Valve

The check valve is usually located beneath the dishwasher spray arm, just after the inlet valve. Access the check valve by removing the lower dish rack and the dishwasher spray arm. Use a wrench to loosen the retaining screen beneath the spray arm. If a large object protector is present, remove this screen as well. Remove the pump housing to gain access to the check valve. Pull the old check valve out of place and insert a new one. Replace the large object and retaining screens. Replace the dishwasher spray arm and secure with the spray arm bolt.

Dishwasher Inlet Valves

Check the dishwasher inlet valves for proper operation. These are located directly behind where the water supply pipe connects. Access these components by removing the kick panel at the bottom of the dishwasher door with a screwdriver. Disconnect the water supply hose--keep a towel on handy to wipe up any water that dribbles out--and disconnect the wiring harness. Use an ohmmeter to check continuity across the inlet valves, and replace if faulty.

Drain Line Routing

If the leaking water inside the dishwasher is backing up into the sink, there's a good chance that the drain line isn't routed properly. Make sure that the middle portion of the drain hose is raised higher than both the connection at the dishwasher and the inlet on the garbage disposal or sink tailpiece. Secure the drain hose to the cabinet or wall to keep in place with clamps.

Use An Electric Oven

Some ovens have lights so you can monitor food while it cooks.

An electric oven is a kitchen appliance that cooks food. It has heating elements that are powered by electricity and knobs or buttons that regulate the heat. An oven usually is located underneath the range top, but some ovens are mounted in kitchen walls. The oven contains racks upon which you set food for cooking. The exact methods of use your oven will vary from one brand and model to another, but generally speaking the steps are the same. Always read your owner's manual before using the oven, and always follow recipe instructions when cooking.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven according to recipe instructions. Turn the temperature knob to the temperature at which you want to cook the food and let the oven heat up for five to 10 minutes. If you have an electrical control panel, press the "Preheat" button and select the preheating time and temperature. The oven will beep when it is ready.

2. Open the oven door and insert the food item you wish to cook. Set it in the center of the middle rack if you have more than one rack. Do not wrap the racks in aluminum foil; doing so blocks airflow and increases cook time. Cook your food items in glass or ceramic dishes whenever you have those options. You can decrease the cooking temperature by 25 degrees when using these vessels.

3. Close the oven door. Set the timer on the control panel, if it has one. If not, set an egg timer so you do not overcook the food. Do not open the oven door during cook time. If you want to check on the progress of the food, turn on the oven's interior light. The switch is either on the door or the control panel.

4. Open the oven door when the timer goes off. If you are cooking meat, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest portion of the cut to make sure it is cooked thoroughly. If you are baking, insert a toothpick into the middle of the baked good. If the toothpick comes out clean, the dish is done.

5. Remove the food with oven mitts and close the oven door. Turn the temperature control knob to "Off." If your oven has a self-cleaning cycle, run it immediately to take advantage of the already high temperature inside the oven.

Rotten Shrimp Odor Removal

The odor of rotten shrimp can leave an area smelling unclean, unsanitized and unpleasant. The fishy smell can be potent and overpowering, making a person want to avoid an area completely. These foul odors can sometimes be difficult to get rid of, but by using a few inexpensive deodorizing ingredients, you can get rid of a rotten shrimp odor quickly and effectively.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is one of the best deodorizing products on the market, not to mention one of the cheapest. First, clean the area with dish detergent and warm water to remove any odor that has not set into the surface. Then sprinkle with a coating of baking soda and let sit for 30 minutes. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the baking soda and scrub with a cloth or sponge. The baking soda will absorb and deodorize, while the lemon juice will work as a scented, citrus-based cleaning agent. After cleaning the area with the baking soda mixture, wipe with a damp cloth to absorb any excess solution.

Vinegar

Vinegar works to clean, disinfect and deodorize--perfect for strong odors like rotten shrimp. In a spray bottle, mix a solution of one cup water and one cup white vinegar. Wash the surface with soap and water first, then spray with the vinegar solution. Let sit for ten minutes, then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Repeat as necessary until the foul odor has diminished.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide works as an oxygenated cleaning agent that will quickly clean and deodorize an area affected by a shrimp odor. In a spray bottle, mix a solution of one cup water, 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide. Wash the surface, then spray with the peroxide solution. Let sit for ten minutes and wipe away with a damp cloth.

Coffee Grounds

To deodorize a confined area like a refrigerator or freezer, simply sprinkle one or two cups of coffee grounds into a dish or pan and set inside the fridge or freezer, uncovered. The coffee scent will eat up the smell of the rotten shrimp. Your refrigerator may smell like coffee grounds for a day or two, but the scent will go away, and the rotten shrimp smell will be gone as well.

Problems With Sidebyside Refrigerators

This kitchen includes a large side-by-side refrigerator.

A fridge is frequently probably the most costly appliance in the home. Additionally, it uses more energy than every other appliance since it runs virtually 24 hrs each day. Side-by-side fridges have two more compact doorways as opposed to a single large door. This last feature makes side-by-side models an operating choice in small kitchen areas or perhaps in kitchen areas with narrow lanes. This layout also offers some inadequacies. Some side-by-side models have better repair histories and employ less energy than others.

Temperature Performance

A 2010 Consumer Reviews (CR) rating of 34 side-by-side refrigerators' temperature performance ranked only three side-by-side models excellent, CR's greatest rating, and three of these fair, the 2nd-cheapest rating. Overall rankings for side-by-side models averaged about 10 % less than CR's average overall rankings for bottom-freezer models. A casual overview of numerous consumer appliance rankings at Amazon . com, Lowe's and residential Depot verifies CR's findings. Customers convey more complaints about temperature performance on side-to-side models than bottom-freezer models.

No Brand Consistency

Regardless of the comparatively inferior group performance of side-by-side fridges, a few of these models carried out perfectly. The Whirlpool Gold G55VHAXW(Q) received CR's greatest rankings in 2 other groups too--energy-efficiency and simplicity of use--and it is second greatest rating within the 4th category, noise. But another Whirlpool side-by-side, the ED5DHEXW[Q] had only average performance in four groups. This brand inconsistency held true for other part by sides too. One Samsung, the R5275AC[Wordpress], received excellent or excellent rankings in most four groups, while another Samsung, the R5G257AA[Wordpress] had excellent rankings for temperature performance and noise, but received the cheapest rating for energy-efficiency. Kenmore. General electric, Frigidaire, LG and Maytag also had almost even distributions from high to low of the individual side-by-side items on CR's 100-point rating scale. Brand inconsistency makes looking for a side-to-side model difficult you will have to consult consumer rankings for every refrigerator inside a given brand.

Awkward Format

Side-by-side fridges work nicely in places that just one wide door wouldn't fit. But, as you review website notes, they don't use space very effectively, as well as for confirmed exterior cubic footage, they're going to have less internal capacity than the usual top-freezer or bottom-freezer model. Side-by-side models' short shelves provide two times as numerous useless finish-spaces per lineal feet of shelving, as well as for confirmed capacity shiny things cost more. Exactly the same site notes what consumer reactions at major merchants also indicated: side-by-side designs include troubling repair histories, and lots of customers wouldn't purchase them again or recommend these to a buddy.

Dewinterize Houses

When spring flowers arrive, it's time to de-winterize your house.

After winter, homeowners are anxious to get the second home ready for the spring and summer vacations. Vacation homes as well as many foreclosure homes are prepped for winter by winterizing the plumbing to protect the home from frozen pipes and property damage. Before the water can be turned on in the home, you must prepare the pipes for water. It is important that you follow a specific order and do not turn on the water before preparations are taken.

Instructions

1. Inspect the water pipes throughout the house for cracks or breakage. Remove any insulation that you may have put on the pipes to protect them from cold.

2. Close all of the faucets that you left open when the home was winterized. Close the valve on the water tubing to a refrigerator that has an ice maker. Open the water supply valve on the water heater and close the drain cap. Leave the outside faucet open. This will be your visual that the water is running freely.

3. Remove the aerators from the kitchen and bathroom faucets. This will allow any dirt build up to run freely from the pipes into the sinks. If you opened any sink traps or basement traps, connect or cover the traps.

4. Slowly turn the water meter valve to turn on the water to the house. Make a quarter of a turn every five to nine seconds. Have people monitoring the pipes for leaks while doing this. Don't be alarmed if you hear grinding or strange noises coming from the pipes. The pipes are filling with water after being empty and can create quite a loud racket.

5. Look at the outside faucet to see if water is running out. Turn on each sink faucet very slowly. After each faucet is on, leave the water running for at least 10 minutes to purge the system and remove any air from the lines.

6. Keep the water running in the sinks while you turn on the valves to the toilets. Once the toilet is filled with water, flush the toilet. Turn off the water on all of the faucets including the outside faucet.

7. Inspect the house plumbing after all pipes are charged and water is running freely throughout the house. Look under the sinks for leaks, under the water heater and the water tubing for the refrigerator and washing machine faucet.

8. Check the water meter after the water heater is filled and all faucets have been turned off. If the meter is still running, you may have a hidden leak or a leak from the meter itself. If you do suspect a leak that you cannot find, contact a professional plumber or the water utility company for help.

Remove Scum Inside Dishwashers

Dishwasher maintenance is crucial to a clean home environment.

Your dishwasher must be clean to work properly. Most dishwashers are serviced by main municipal water lines and receive hard water. Hard water contains numerous natural minerals, and the minerals leave behind a residue. Hard water scale is difficult to remove with most cleaners. Scale residue in the dishwasher will prevent it from working at its optimum level and will also leave a scum buildup on your dishes. It is important to remove hard water deposits. Harsh chemicals are not a good option for the home, but there are simple, effective and safe methods to remove hard water deposits.

Instructions

1. Remove the trap at the bottom of the dishwasher and dump out any food and debris. Dip a toothbrush in vinegar and scrub the trap to remove any hard water scale that may keep the water from draining properly. Rinse and replace the trap.

2. Pour 1 qt. vinegar into a bowl. Set the bowl as close to the center of the dishwasher as possible. The spray from the water intake will help disperse the vinegar and spread it onto all the surfaces. Turn on the dishwasher for a full wash cycle.

3. Allow the cycle to finish. Before the washer cools off entirely and dries, open it and scrub the inside with the sponge. Pay close attention to the spray wands and sides of the dishwasher where scale builds up. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which helps break down tough staining like hard water deposits.

4. Run the dishwasher again when you are satisfied the scum has been removed. Pour 1/2 cup lemon juice in this load to help remove the vinegar smell. Use a hot cycle with no dry. Wipe out the dishwasher with a rag.

5. Use a rinse aid when running the dishwasher to prevent hard water stains on dishes and remove scale from the inside of the dishwasher. Once a month, run the washer with vinegar to give it a good cleaning.

6. Continue your dishwasher maintenance by checking the hot water settings. Dishes do not need to be burned to get clean with today's detergents. Adjust the heat setting to 140 if you have a heat booster in the unit. According to the Consumer Energy Center, over 80 percent of the energy used in a dishwasher is for heating the water, so it is important to have it at the optimal temperature for cleaning.

Put Pots & Pans In The Dishwasher

Most pots and pans should be hand-washed.

Dishwashers are supposed to take the work out of washing dishes, and for many years, they have. A recent change in legislation has forced detergent manufacturers to remove phosphate from the formulations to help keep it from leaching into streams and lakes. One of the side effects with pots and pans is more corrosive activity on the surface of the metals without the protection of the phosphates. Now, many manufacturers of quality pots are advising consumers to wash pots and pans by hand.

Detergent

Since it seems to be more an issue of the corrosive effects of dishwashing detergent on the various surfaces found on pots and pans, the safe method of cleaning is by hand with liquid dish detergent. Consumer Reports states that the detergents are rough on "any silver, fine glassware, brass, bronze, cast iron, disposable plastics, gold-colored flatware, gold-leaf china, hollow-handle knives, pewter, tin, anything made of wood or with a wood handle, and possibly other kitchen ware."

Copper

Copper is a reactive metal, which is why manufacturers often coat it with stainless steel. If you place copper-bottom pots into a dishwasher with hot water that is often acidic, you can expect to see markings across the copper.

Glass

Glass is usually safe in a dishwasher unless you place reactive metals in the machine with it. Chemical reactions between the detergent and the metals dissolve a small amount of the metals into the water splashing over the glass. The result is often a film coating the surface, which you then have to wash off by hand. Hard water deposits are another problem with dishwasher-washed glass objects as the deposits accumulate as the dishes drip dry.

Aluminum

Aluminum is another reactive metal that has never been dishwasher safe. Without the buffering action of the phosphates, the surface of aluminum reacts with the detergents and the water, leaving a coating on the rest of the dishes in the machine.

Scratched Teflon

Teflon is a coating over metal, often aluminum. If the surface is scratched, the acid detergent in the dishwasher will eat away at the exposed aluminum and loosen more of the coating, rendering the pan unsafe for cooking. Generally, scratched Teflon is unsuitable for cooking with acidic food.

Connect An Electric Oven

Electric range/oven plug connectors

The typical electric oven will connect to the house's electrical system using one of two types of adapters: three- or four-pronged plugs. These plugs are wired into the rear center of area of the unit, behind a protective metal panel. The average handyman will spend about twenty minutes installing this appliance.

Instructions

1. Unscrew the metal panel in the back of the oven. This will give access to the electrical connectors. There are three connections: red, white, and black. On four-pronged adapters, there is a green wire that must be connected to a ground, usually the screw that holds the metal panel onto the oven. The green wire may also be connected to the white ground wire's connector.

2. Connect the colored wires of the adapter to the range's connectors. Be sure to thread the cord through the bottom opening first, so that the panel's replacement will not crimp them. The colors of the cord's wires will match the colors of the range's connector wires. Red and black are hot alternating current, while white and green will be the grounds. Most connector screws are flat headed, but newer units may have Phillips head screws secured to each wire. Be sure all connections are tight, and wrap them with electrical tape if they are close to one another.

3. Replace the metal panel.

4. Position the oven into place, leaving about four feet between the range and the wall. The plug adapters are sold in four- and six-foot cord lengths.

5. Plug the adapter into the socket. If the current is turned on, the oven should be powered. Check all functions of the oven to ensure they work properly.

6. Push the oven straight back into place, but do not push it all the way against the wall. The plug may be damaged if the range is shoved against it.

Instructions For A Kenmore Dishwasher

Dishwashing is one of the most disliked household chores that must be done on a regular basis. The modern dishwasher makes it a bit easier to get the dishes clean by only requiring you to load the machine instead of washing each dish. Kenmore, one of the leading manufacturers of dishwashers, offers several model series, including ones that also dry the dishes. The operating instructions can vary depending on model, but there are some common steps to washing dishes in nearly all Kenmore dishwashers.

2. Add detergent in the detergent holder on the door and close the lid. Close the dishwasher door. Press the cycle buttons to select the appropriate wash cycle and press the "Start" button to begin the load.

3. Open the dishwasher door after you hear the chime indicating the end of the cycle, being careful to avoid any steam that the door emits. Remove the dishes from the racks. Clean out any debris that may be in the bottom of the washer or the drain trap.

Wire An Rv Electrical Outlet

Plug your RV into your electrical service while it sits in your drive.

Camping can be quite enjoyable and RV camping allows you to bring the conveniences of your home on the road. RVs can come equipped with bathrooms, stoves, hot water, air conditioners and even dishwashers. With all these features it's almost like pulling your home behind your car. But you must plug an RV into a special outlet, whether at a campsite or your home. You can wire an RV electrical outlet, allowing you to plug in your RV while it sits in your driveway. This is a specific outlet and must be located on an isolated circuit.

Instructions

1. Cut a hole in an exterior garage wall for your RV electrical outlet. Trace around the template provided with your plastic "old work" electrical box. Use a keyhole saw and carefully cut around the trace lines to remove the wall board.

2. Shut off the power to your main electrical panel by turning off the main breaker at the top of your breaker box. Remove the screws that attach your breaker panel cover to the wall, exposing the wiring and breakers. Test to confirm that the electrical panel has been disconnected. Use an electrical tester and touch one prong to the back of any breaker where the black wire connects and touch the other prong to any metal on the breaker panel. If the panel has no electrical current, your tester should not light up.

3. Pull a length of 10/2 NM cable from the RV outlet location to the breaker panel. Leave approximately 6 to 8 inches of cable exposed at both the breaker panel and the outlet location.

4. Strip 6 inches of exterior sheath off of the NM cable to expose the interior wires using dual NM cable wire stripper/cutters. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation off of the NM cable's black and white wires. Complete this task at both the panel box and the outlet location.

5. Install the RV outlet electrical box. Pull the electrical cable into the outlet box through the knockout located at the rear of the box. Slide the "old work" electrical box into the hole and attach it to the wall, following the manufacturer's directions on install an "old work" box.

6. Install the 30 amp, 110-volt RV outlet. The RV outlet will be a single receptacle that accepts a specific three-prong plug. There are two slots at the top of the outlet situated at approximately a 45-degree angle. There is a center hole that holds a screw, and a half-oval opening at the bottom of the outlet. When facing the outlet it has the appearance of a sad face. Wire the outlet from the back by sliding the black wire under the screw behind one of the angled slots, and the white wire under the screw at the other angled slot. Tighten both screws to hold the wires in place. Slide the bare copper ground underneath the screw located behind the half oval opening and tighten the screw. Push all wiring and the outlet into the electrical box, attaching it at the top and the bottom with screws that were provided with the RV outlet. Cover the outlet with an RV outlet plate.

7. Install the 30 amp single pole breaker into your breaker panel. Slide the breaker into the breaker panel from back to front, attaching the back of the breaker to the panel first, then snapping the breaker over the center bus bar. Push down firmly on the breaker until it snaps into place. Slide the black wire underneath the screw located at the back of the breaker and tighten the screw to hold the wire in place. Find the neutral bar in your breaker panel. It is commonly located vertically to the right or the left of the breakers and is silver with screws down the entire length of the bar. All white wires from the panel box will be connected to the neutral bar. Slide the white wire underneath one of the screws on the neutral bar and tighten the screw. Locate the ground bar in your panel box. It resembles the neutral bar, but it contains bare copper and green wires. Slide your bare copper wire underneath the screw on the ground bar and tighten it.

8. Replace the electrical panel box cover and turn the main breaker back on.

Noise In A Whirlpool Dishwasher

The Whirlpool Corporation, headquartered in Benton Charter Township, Michigan, is a major producer and seller of consumer appliances. It sells both built-in and portable dishwashers. A common issue with these dishwashers is that they're noisy. Certain noises are part of the normal operation of the dishwasher, while others indicate an issue with the unit. Distinguish between these noises, and repair dishwasher problems to avoid service fees.

Normal Noises

Your dishwasher normally makes a certain amount of noise. Grinding and grating sounds are just the dishwasher breaking up food particles. You may hear a clunking noise, especially near the beginning the cycle. Swishing noises are often from water moving around your dishwasher. Buzzing and clicking sounds are also common. If you open the door, you may hear a snapping sound, which is also normal.

Rattling/Knocking

If you hear a rattling inside your Whirlpool dishwasher, stop the dishwasher and rearrange your dishes. This noise is usually caused by plates hitting against each other, which causes chipping. If you hear a knocking noise, the spray arm is hitting against dishes as it moves around the dishwasher. Move any items blocking the arm. If you do not, your dishes won't clean properly since water can't move freely around the tub.

Pump/Heater Fan

The pump may make a rattling or squealing sound when it's new. Pour 1 qt. of water on the bottom of the tub to lubricate the pump seals. If you hear a grinding sound within the pump, food may be clogged inside. Stop your Whirlpool dishwasher, and disconnect it from the power supply. Take out the spray arms, bottom rack and spray arm support to access the pump. Clean the pump with a toothpick to remove any objects caught in it. Examine the inside of the pump, and see if the impeller is broken. Replace the whole pump if the impeller is broken, since it's difficult to fix. The heater fan may squeal if it's rusted or if the fan blade is loose. Change out the fan motor if rusted, or tighten the fan blade.

Motor/Water Valve

The motor is located inside the main access panel of the dishwasher. The motor has a plastic disk connected to it. If this component breaks, it can rattle around the motor shaft. Replace the motor, since you usually can't fix the disc. Check the bearings, and see if they are extremely worn or wet. Get new bearings if old. Replace the main tub seal on the dishwasher if water is dripping on the bearings. You must get a new water inlet valve if it's creating a thumping noise.

Ge Hotpoint Refrigerator Troubleshooting

GE is an American company that sells products worldwide under different brands, including under the Hotpoint home appliance brand. Hotpoint offers different types of refrigerators, including top-freezer, side-by-side and compact refrigerator. GE recommends that you troubleshoot minor issues with your refrigerator, since you can often easily fix these problems. This saves you money on technician fees.

No Power

If your GE Hotpoint refrigerator does not have any power, check to see if it is actually turned on and that you have power. Verify that the power cord is plugged into a live outlet. Test the outlet by plugging another appliance into the outlet. Check your circuit breaker, and turn it back on if tripped. Change out a bad fuse. A bad fuse has broken wires or looks black. If your refrigerator still won't turn on, change the freezer control from the "0" position to the "On" position. The refrigerator will not operate during the defrost cycle. If it is in the defrost cycle, wait 30 minutes, and then turn it back on. If your refrigerator or freezer is too warm, adjust the temperature settings, and completely close the doors. It is normal for your motor to operate for a long time, especially if you have a lot of food in your refrigerator.

Freezer/Icemaker

If you see ice crystals in your refrigerator, it is usually caused by opening the doors too often, so refrain from opening the freezer doors. If you are having trouble closing the door, clean the door gaskets. If you are not getting ice, properly connect the water supply, and check to see if the icemaker is on. Clean out a dirty ice bin if your ice has a funny taste, and don't store food in the ice bin. If the ice cubes are small, change out the water filter cartridge. Decrease the freezer temperature if it's too warm.

Water Dispenser

If your water dispenser is not providing you with water, connect the cold water supply line to the water dispenser, and check to see that the water valve is in the "On" position. Fully close the freezer door. If the dispenser is locked, hold down the "Lock Control" button for about three seconds. If you are still not receiving water, remove any clogs from the water filter or supply line. Try holding down the dispenser arm for two minutes in case air is trapped in the line. It is normal for water to be warm if you just installed the dispenser or if you used up all of the cold water.

Other Issues

If your interior light bulb does not come on, try tightening the light bulb if it is loose. Change the bulb if the light is burnt out. It is normal for your Hotpoint refrigerator to make noise while operating. If you hear excessive vibrating noise, use a level to determine if the refrigerator is level. Connect the water supply to the icemaker if you hear a buzzing sound. It is normal for moisture to form on the outside of your refrigerator during high humidity. Close the door if you see condensation inside your refrigerator. If the refrigerator has an odor, clean the refrigerator, and always properly package foods.

Get Help For A Magic Chef Oven That Won'T Stay On

There are several ways to troubleshoot an oven.

Magic Chef ovens are appliances that deliver high quality performance. However, just like any appliance, Magic Chef ovens sometimes have problems that require examination or routine maintenance. Luckily, these ovens usually come with a fair warranty in case of a severe problem that requires professional repair. Most of the time you can repair your oven yourself by simply checking everyday functions on the oven. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Check to see if the oven control is set correctly. Verify that you have pressed start after you set the oven to bake, clean or whatever you are using the oven for (see reference 2).

2. Look at the oven display to see if it is set to the "Delay Start" setting by accident, since "Delay Start" is a safety feature that will keep the oven off until you change the settings. Press the "Off/Cancel" button to cancel this setting.

3. Consult your owner's manual to see if your model includes a lock feature. Shut off this function by pressing "Start." Press the button again to shut the function off if the letters "LOC" appear on the display.

4. Contact the store you purchased the appliance from. Ask about your warranty and repair or replacement options.

5. Call the Magic Chef support center at 1-800-253-1301 to speak to a Magic Chef representative about the problem if the store will not refund you.

Get An Lg Dryer To Dry Jeans & Towels Faster

Ensure heavy items dry thoroughly by maintaining your machine.

LG dryers are excellent quality appliances and are the descendant of the reliable GE appliances. LG dryers can run the gamut from inexpensive bargain models to top-of-the-line top loaders. Regardless of the model, one of the issues that comes up when using any model clothes dryer is wet jeans and towels coming out after a complete cycle. While a common complaint, there are steps you can take to remedy this situation.

Instructions

1. Empty the lint trap after every load. While this step seems simple, it is often overlooked, which not only leads to wet loads of laundry but also presents a very real fire hazard.

2. Clean out as much of the dryer venting tunnel as possible once a year or more often. Some lint from bulkier items will get passed through the lint trap and remain clogged in the venting. Use a vacuum attachment to clean the entire length of the venting pipe.

3. Use the spin cycle on your washer before placing heavy items like jeans or towels into the dryer. The less wet the clothes go into the dryer, the better job the LG dryer will be able to do.

4. Dry large items that tend to ball up separately. Items such as sheets and blankets will prevent the rest of the load from drying properly.

5. Dry a smaller load. If you have heavy items that are not drying well, try drying fewer items. You should only have one full basket of laundry in the dryer at a time. Many people tend to overload the dryer, thus causing the heavier items not to dry.

Use Selfcleaning Jennair Ovens

After a few months of normal usage, most ovens need cleaning.

Self-cleaning ovens, like the kind manufactured by Jenn-Air, use extreme heat to burn away dirt and grime. Because of the danger involved with having your oven at 900 degrees or higher, the cleaning process isn’t as simple as hitting a button and walking away. You can even schedule the process, so that the oven will clean itself when you know that you won’t need it for a few hours. While most self-cleaning ovens let you program the cleaning duration and the start time, Jenn-Air ovens can be a bit confusing because they have you program the cleaning duration and the stop time.

Instructions

1. Remove any pans, utensils and racks from the oven. If you leave these in during the self-cleaning process, it will destroy them.

2. Clean the area around the door gasket and the area on the oven frame where the door touches. Use hot water and detergent to clean these areas. Do not attempt to clean or rub the oven gasket itself, as this can damage the gasket. You should also clean any large spills in the oven. If you don’t, the self-cleaning process can create a lot of smoke and even ignite the inside of the oven.

3. Remove the air grill from the center of the range before you start the cleaning process. The amount of smoke that comes out of the oven can discolor the grille.

4. Close the oven door and press the "Clean" button. The word "Clean" will show up on the display.

5. Type in the three-digit time equal to the length of your desired cleaning. For light cleaning enter "2:00," and for heavy cleaning, enter "4:00." Most cleanings should be set in the middle of those values, about three hours.

6. Press the "Stop Time" button if you want to delay the beginning of the self-cleaning process. The display will change to the current calculated stop time, based on the current time and the length of the cleaning. Enter your desired stop time on the number pad. For example, if it is currently 9 a.m. and you want the cleaning to go for three hours starting at 10, you would enter "1:00" on the number pad. Five seconds after you enter the stop time, the new starting time will show on the display for five seconds before returning to the current time.

7. Stay away from the oven while it is cleaning. There will be a good deal of smoke, so turn on the vent to remove the smoke.

8. Press the "Cancel/Off" pad to stop the cleaning process early. If the oven is still hot, it can take up to 45 minutes for the door to unlock.

Fix The Element In A Hotpoint Dryer

Fix the Element in a Hotpoint Dryer

Most dryer heating problems are the result of a faulty heating element. The only way to fix a faulty heating element is to replace the element. Unlike most dryers, the Hotpoint dryer heating element is behind the drum. The element assembly resembles a plate with two coil springs. Replacement element assemblies for the Hotpoint are available at appliance service centers. Although you will need to remove the dryer drum to access the element, the replacement process is not difficult.

Instructions

1. Unplug the Hotpoint dryer power cord from the wall outlet. Move the dryer two feet away from the rear wall.

2. Open the dryer door and locate the two screws under the upper lip of the door opening. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver and lift the front of the top panel. Raise the top panel toward the rear wall and allow the panel to sit back on the rear hinges. This will resemble opening your car hood, only the dryer top will open fully.

3. Remove the two screws that secure the front panel to the side panels inside the dryer cabinet with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The screws will be in the upper inside corner on both sides of the front panel. Lift the front panel and set it against the right side of the dryer.

4. Go to the rear of the dryer and locate a small access panel on the middle of the rear panel. Remove the two screws securing the access panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Inside the access area, you will see the bearing clip and washers for the drum. Remove the bearing clip and pull the washers off of the drum.

5. Go to the front of the dryer to disconnect the drive belt from the idler pulley. Reach your hands to the inside right of the cabinet, pull the idler pulley to the left and hold it. With a free hand, pull the belt off of the motor pulley and idler pulley. Slowly release the idler pulley back to the right.

6. Grab the dryer drum and lift it up to pull it out of the cabinet. When you pull the drum out of the cabinet, you will bring the belt with the drum.

7. Disconnect the heating element wires from the heating element terminals. The heating element terminal are on the upper right side of the assembly. Remove the two screws that secure the high-limit thermostat to the heating element assembly with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the high-limit thermostat off the heating element assembly and set the thermostat on the top rear corner of the cabinet. You will not need to remove the thermostat wires.

8. Go to the rear of the dryer and remove the four screws that secure the heating element to the rear of the dryer with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the faulty element out of the cabinet and place the new element inside the cabinet. Line the mounting holes of the new assembly up with the cabinet and secure the assembly to the cabinet with the four retaining screws.

9. Place the high-limit thermostat into the heating element assembly and secure the thermostat with the retaining screws. Slide the wire ends over the heating element terminals. Position the drum back inside the dryer with the small shaft on the rear center inserted through the center portion of the heating element assembly.

10. Pull the idler pulley to the left and route the belt over the idler pulley and motor pulley. Go to the back of the dryer, slide the washer back over the dryer drum shaft and reinstall the bearing clip. Rotate the drum by hand to check for any binding.

11. Position the front panel back to the sides and secure the panels together with the retaining screws. Pull the top panel down and secure the top panel with the two retaining screws. Plug the Hotpoint dryer back into the wall outlet and push the dryer back into its working position.
