Magic Chef
is a brand of appliances sold by CNA International, Inc., headquartered in Wood Dale, Illinois. Magic Chef offers compact refrigerators, which have a maximum capacity of 10 cubic feet. These refrigerators generally operate with minimal maintenance. Troubleshoot minor problems with your refrigerator since you can often repair these problems without assistance from a Magic Chef authorized technician.
Temperature
If your Magic Chef refrigerator is not cooling properly, completely close the refrigerator doors, and lower the temperature setting. If the doors won't close, verify that the unit is level by using a bubble level. If it's not level, repair the floor beneath the refrigerator, or place wood shims under the lower end. Clean the door gaskets if they are dirty, or replace the gaskets if brittle or falling off. Push in any food, shelves or bins blocking the doors. Allow at least 4 hours for the refrigerator to cool down if it's been unplugged. Your refrigerator is usually not warm when you first add a large quantity of food to it. Clean the condenser and condenser coils if dirty. If the refrigerator is too cold, increase the temperature setting. The exterior of your refrigerator is normally warmer than the ambient temperature.
Noise
A refrigerator makes some operational noises, including bubbling, popping or gurgling. If the refrigerator is vibrating, verify that it's level. Stabilize the floor if extremely weak. A knocking on the back of the refrigerator means you have an issue with the condenser fan, compressor or defrost timer. Clean the condenser fan if dirty. Replace any of these components if they are not functioning correctly. A noise at the bottom of the fridge is the drain pan. Secure the pan in place with some duct tape.
Not Operating Properly
If your refrigerator won't turn on, verify that the power cord is plugged into an outlet. Check the outlet with another appliance to see if it's working. See if your home fuses are blown, and change them out. If you have a circuit breaker instead of fuses, reset it if an appliance tripped it. You have problem with an internal component if these don't resolve the issue. Contact a refrigerator service technician.
Moisture/Compressor
Keep the doors closed to prevent moisture from forming inside the refrigerator. You normally find moisture on the exterior of your Magic Chef refrigerator on warm and humid days. Your compressor usually cycles on and off when your room is warm. Refrain from opening the doors too often. If the refrigerator never cycles off, change the thermostat set point to a higher setting. If it still won't turn off, you have a problem with the thermostat. You must replace it.
