Jennair Dishwasher Installation

Jenn-Air manufactures many quality home appliances, including dishwashers. If you have purchased a new Jenn-Air dishwasher for your kitchen, paying a technician to install it can be costly. You can install your new Jenn-Air dishwasher by following a step-by-step procedure that requires some basic tools. Connecting a Jenn-Air dishwasher is accomplished in the same way as any other brand of dishwasher. There is a water supply hose, a drain hose and the electrical component.

Instructions

Electrical Connection

1. Access the rear of the dishwasher and locate the panel that covers the electrical connections for the cord.

2. Remove the screws that secure the panel to the dishwasher using a Phillips screwdriver. Trace the side of the electrical cord from the small prong on the plug end to the other end with the raw wires. This is the hot lead. The other wire covered with insulation is the neutral, and the copper or bare wire is the ground.

3. Connect the hot lead to the brass-colored lug on the dishwasher, the neutral lead to the silver-colored lug and the ground to the green-colored screw. Loosen the lugs with a Phillips screwdriver, wrap the wires around them and then tighten the screws. The hot and neutral wires are pre-stripped, so pull off the insulation from the end of the wires where they have been pre-cut. Replace the access panel and secure it with its screws. Feed the cord through the cabinet sidewall and plug it into the outlet under the sink.

Drain Connection

4. Locate the straight drain pipe that connects to the sink drain stub. The other end usually connects to the p-trap, which is the curved part of the drain.

5. Loosen the large nuts on both ends of the straight pipe by turning them counterclockwise using a pair of slip-joint pliers. Push the nut up on the pipe and wriggle the straight pipe free from the drain stub and the p-trap.

6. Insert a straight pipe that has an extra port on the side for a dishwasher connection. Fit the pipe into the drain stub and p-trap and pull the nuts down and tighten them by hand. Turn the nuts a quarter of a turn with the slip-joint pliers to tighten them the rest of the way.

7. Feed the dishwasher's drain hose through the cabinet sidewall.

8. Fit the end of the dishwasher's drain hose onto the side port of the straight drain pipe. Squeeze together the ends of the spring clip located on the dishwasher drain hose using the slip-joint pliers. Pull it forward on the hose to the port. Release the spring clip so it holds the drain hose securely on the port.

Water Supply Connection

9. Look under the sink where the water lines enter the cabinet and locate the hot water shutoff valve. The valve is the one on the left. Turn the handle or knob on the shutoff completely clockwise to shut off the hot water supply. Turn on the faucet to ensure no hot water is coming out to confirm that you have shut off the correct valve.

10. Unscrew the faucet's hot water supply hose fitting from the shutoff valve by turning it counterclockwise with an adjustable wrench.

11. Connect the shutoff valve adapter to the shutoff valve where the supply hose was attached. The adapter allows more than one item to be connected to the shutoff valve. Turn the adapter's fitting clockwise by hand and then tighten it using an adjustable wrench. Reattach the faucet's water supply hose to one of the fittings on the adapter.

12. Attach one end of the dishwasher water supply hose to the other fitting on the shutoff adapter in the same way that you attached the faucet's water supply hose. Feed the dishwasher water supply hose through the hole in the sidewall of the cabinet. Remove the kick plate on the front bottom of the dishwasher using a Phillips screwdriver and pull the water supply hose up to the water inlet valve on the front left side of the dishwasher.

13. Tighten the water supply hose fitting to the water inlet valve on the dishwasher by hand. Tighten the fitting with an adjustable wrench. Reattach the kick plate. Push the dishwasher completely under the cabinet. Secure the dishwasher by inserting the screws that came with the dishwasher through the tabs on the top of the dishwasher and into the underneath of the counter. Use a Phillips screwdriver to secure the screws. Restore the hot water supply by turning the handle or knob on the shutoff valve completely counterclockwise.
