Make Homemade Dishwasher Soap

Make your dishwasher more eco-friendly.

Making your own dishwasher detergent can help reduce your shopping bill. It is also more eco-friendly. You'll save dozens of plastic detergent bottles from the landfill and prevent harmful chemicals from going down your drain. As a bonus, you can use the ingredients for other cleaning projects. Sprinkle borax on cooked-on food on your pots. Use the vinegar mixed with an equal amount of water to clean your floors and countertops. Most of these ingredients should be available at your local supermarket. If you have trouble finding any of them, check a natural health store.

Instructions

1. Measure out 1 cup of washing soda and 1 cup of borax. Pour them in a bowl.

2. Add 1/2 cup of salt and 1/2 cup of citric acid.

3. Mix the ingredients well.

4. Pour the detergent mixture into a Mason jar for storage.

5. Use 1 tbsp. of your homemade detergent for each dishwasher load.
