Fix A Leaking Hotpoint Dishwasher

Hotpoint dishwashers by General Electric offer a four-level wash system, hard food dispenser, water filtration system with food filter, quiet motor, preheated water for improved cleaning and a stain-proof tub and door liner. While the dishwasher can generally be expected to work well with normal cleaning, care and maintenance, issues may still arise, such as water leaking. If this occurs, troubleshoot the problem in order to find a fix.

Instructions

1. Clean the drain in the kitchen sink and run the garbage disposal, if possible. Examine the connection between the dishwasher and garbage disposal underneath the kitchen sink, and make sure the knockout plug has been removed. Find the inlet connection on the garbage disposal where the pipe to the dishwasher should be connected. If there is a plug between the two, take a hammer to gently pop it out of place and pull it from the garbage disposal. Reconnect the pipe to the garbage disposal and tighten with a wrench.

2. Clean out the air gap on the kitchen sink, if applicable. The air gap will look like a small metal bullet-shaped item on the sink near the faucet. Lift off the metal cap and disconnect the hose inside. Clear out any obstructions from the mouth of the hose and flush with water from the faucet. Reconnect the hose and replace the metal cap.

3. Open the Hotpoint dishwasher door if there are detergent suds left in the tub. Allow enough time for the suds to evaporate. Add 1 gallon of cold water to the bottom of the dishwasher tub and close the door. Turn the control dial slowly to reach a drain cycle or press "Start/Reset." Wait 10 seconds and repeat until the water and suds are fully drained.

4. Disconnect the power to the dishwasher and disconnect the drain hose from the rear of the dishwasher. Clean the inlet screen at the point where the drain hose connects to the dishwasher and check for possible obstructions. Reconnect and straighten the hose.

5. Contact GE or another authorized service technician for assistance if the drainage problem persists, as the problem may be major in scope and require professional repair.
