Clean A Skidoo Clutch

Keep your Ski-Doo running smoothly by cleaning the clutch regularly.

When the clutch of your Ski-Doo snowmobile is dirty, your engine may act as though it's losing power, due to the grit and grime stuck in the mechanism. You may even hear a pop when coming to a stop. This a good sign that your clutch needs a thorough cleaning. You can pressure wash to get the dust out, but taking it apart and completely cleaning it inside will make your Ski-Doo shift better and run cooler.

Instructions

1. Remove the belt. Make sure the belt wear is normal and and not uneven.

2. An air compressor will blow out the dust from the inside of the clutch.

Blow out the inside of the primary and secondary clutches with the air compressor.

3. Spray with the brake cleaner and flush out all surfaces of the clutches. Blow out with the air compressor. Repeat until the clutches look free of grease and grime.

4. Wipe the sheave faces with a dry cloth. You can lubricate the clutch units with a dry lube indicated for Ski-Doos, but do not use grease or oil on the inside. The dry lube will come in an aerosol can or a loose powder.

5. Reinstall the belt.
