Replace A Magic Chef Clothes Dryer Belt

The Magic Chef line of dryers is part of the Maytag brand of appliances and uses many of the same designs and parts as the Maytag dryers, including the motor and idler pulley system. Because the belt is constantly moving around the pulleys, it can wear out from usage as well as becoming damaged by the heat generated from the dryer. You can replace the Magic Chef dryer belt in less than a half hour and save yourself the time and expense of calling out a repairman to fix the appliance.

Instructions

1. Unplug the electrical cord of the Magic Chef dryer from the electrical outlet and locate the screws underneath the lip of the dryer lid in the front.

2. Unfasten the screws in the front of the dryer under the top with a screwdriver. Lift the front panel out from the bottom, detaching the panel from the dryer.

3. Locate the electrical wiring connectors that are attached to the door panel and detach the connectors by hand.

4. Place the front panel aside and unfasten the four screws that are securing the shroud cover to the washing machine base with a screwdriver.

5. Remove the shroud and locate the idler pulley next to the dryer motor.

6. Loosen the idler pulley by using a socket wrench to untighten the bolt, taking the tension off the dryer belt.

7. Remove the dryer belt from the pulleys and around the drum of the Magic Chef dryer.

8. Loop the new dryer belt around the drum and through the idler and motor pulleys, tightening the belt by adjusting the idler pulley bolt with a socket wrench.

9. Reattach the shroud cover with screws and slide the front panel into place, attaching it with the screws under the front lip of the dryer top.

10. Plug the electrical cord of the Magic Chef dryer into the electrical outlet.
