Northern Georgia is popular for a weekend retreats from the cities. Helen, in particular, has become a highly regarded place to visit. Formerly a logging town in decline, Helen's building have been remade to resemble a Bavarian town. Vacation rental cabins in the area can be be pricey, usually beginning around $165 and rising above $200 per night, but there are cabins available for less than $140 per night.

Located in the town of Helen, the cabins are modern log construction with a stone foundation, and have a front porch with rocking chairs and a wood-burning fireplace. They are modernized with cable TV, ceiling fans, and a fully equipped kitchen including a coffee maker, dishwasher, microwave and toaster. Linens and towels are provided.

Timber Lodge
This cabin is just minutes from downtown Blue Ridge in a forest setting with a mountain view, has two bedrooms and sleeps four. Outside on level one is a covered porch with a hot tub, rocking chairs and a charcoal grill. Inside on level one is a great room with cathedral ceilings, kitchen, dining room, living room, and a gas log fireplace. The bedroom on level one has a queen-sized bed and double glass doors which open onto a covered porch. There is a full bath. The bedroom on level two has a king-size bed, a private covered porch and a full bath. The lowest level has a third deck with a picnic table. The cabin includes satellite TV and VCR, washer and dryer, dishwasher, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, linens and towels.

Shanty Creek
This small Chatsworth cabin for two has a loft with a king-size bed, is set on more than five acres of private land and overlooks a small catfish pond. It offers a fully-equipped kitchen, stone fireplace and a full bath on the first level. There are two covered porches, and the large porch has rocking chairs, an outdoor covered hot tub and a gas grill. The kitchen has an icemaker, dishwasher, coffee pot and microwave, and there is a breakfast room. Telephone, satellite TV, DVD, VHS and CD player are included, as well as an on-site gift shop and movie rentals. The entrance is gated and the cabin has air conditioning and heat. The property is located next to Fort Mountain State Park for easy access to hiking and mountain biking. Fishing and swimming are available as are paddle boat and canoe rentals.
