The Kenmore Elite dishwasher, sold by Sears, requires three connections to function properly. You must make an electrical connection, a drain connection and a water supply connection. However, you don't have to hire a professional installer to complete the task. This project is something you can save money on and do it yourself. These connections are basic and will not take a long time to complete.
Instructions
1. Drill a 1-inch diameter hole through the side wall of the cabinet that rests between the kitchen sink's plumbing and the dishwasher. This hole is for the water supply. If the electrical cable for the dishwasher runs into the cabinet, drill a second 1-inch diameter hole. If it runs up through the floor where you will install the dishwasher, omit the second 1-inch hole. Drill a 1 1/4-inch hole for the drain hose.
2. Loosen the compression nut that connects the drain downpipe to the trap and to the pipe extension connected to the sink strainer with a pipe wrench. Remove the downpipe and replace it with a downpipe that has a waste tee on it. Place the waste tee downpipe into the compression nut on the trap and then slide it over the extension tube coming from the sink strainer. Tighten the compression nuts to lock the waste tee downpipe in place.
3. Connect the drain hose supplied with the dishwasher to the waste tee on your kitchen sink's drainpipe by sliding the drain hose onto the tee and then by tightening the band clamp on the end of the drain hose with a screwdriver.
4. Route the drain hose through the hole drilled in the side of the cabinet and position it so the hose runs along the floor in the center of the opening for the dishwasher. The open end of the hose must extend past the face of the cabinets since all connections are made behind the front kick panel of the dishwasher.
5. Route the electrical cable for the dishwasher next to the drain hose.
6. Thread the coupler for the flexible copper water line onto the water shut-off valve under the sink. Tighten the coupler with a wrench. Route the water line though the hole in the side of the cabinet and run it with the drain hose.
7. Remove the screws that hold the front kick panel onto the lower front of the dishwasher.
8. Tape the moisture barrier along the front edge underside edge of the countertop. The moisture barrier strip has a self-adhesive backing on it. To expose the backing, peel the paper off.
9. Slide the dishwasher under the countertop, Make sure the water line, electrical line and the drain hose all run under the dishwasher and remain free of obstruction.
10. Secure the electrical wires to the terminal block on the dishwasher with a screwdriver.
11. Slide the drain hose onto the drain port on the dishwasher and tighten the band clamp with a screwdriver.
12. Thread the coupler on the end of the copper tubing onto the water inlet port and then tighten it with a wrench.
13. Place a level across the top front edge of the dishwasher and adjust the feet of the dishwasher up or down until the dishwasher rests in a level position.
14. Place the kick panel onto the front of the dishwasher and secure it with the screws.
