Where To Donate Appliances

Reduce waste by donating your appliance to a charity or non-profit organization.

As consumers become more environmentally conscious, there is a greater interest in reusing workable electronic equipment instead of tossing them out to a landfill. When you purchase new appliances, consider donating your used appliances to a local organization. Many non-profits and charities offer convenient pick-up arrangements to remove large appliances from your home. Not only would your donation go towards supporting their community programs and raising funds for larger projects, but you would also be protecting the planet by reducing unnecessary waste.

Instructions

1. Register with Excess Access, a site that links donors with the wish lists of non-profits and charities. For an annual $5 fee, you can post a listing about your appliance. Excess Access will find a local organization looking for that appliance, and will connect the two of you. The organization will schedule for a pick-up and you will receive a donation receipt through Excess Access.

2. Donate appliances to The Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries. Both charities arrange for a pick-up of your appliance which they will sell at their local thrift store. Proceeds from the sale of your appliance will support the multiple community outreach and training programs offered by both organizations.

3. Donate your appliance to a Habitat for Humanity Restore. The housing charity has a nationwide network of thrift stores that supports the purchase of supplies and equipment that are needed to build houses throughout the world. Contact your local Habitat for Humanity Restore to arrange a pick-up of your appliance.

4. Donate your appliance to your local church or soup kitchen. These organizations can use your appliance to help feed the homeless, upgrade their kitchen equipment, and better enable their outreach services to the community.

5. Join FreeCycle, a network of millions of members who donate and receive items for free. An Internet-based non-profit organization, FreeCycle allows you to easily post a listing about your appliance, and local members contact you to arrange a pick-up.
