Whirlpool Dishwasher Connection Hose Is Leaking

A Whirlpool dishwasher can make life a lot simpler when performing kitchen washing up duties. Whirlpool manufactures different models for different kitchen needs, including energy-efficient models for those looking to cut down on their energy usage. Whirlpool washers draw water from the home's water supply through a dishwasher hose. These hoses can sometimes spring a leak in one of many different places, which should be repaired as soon as possible to save your home from water damage that might occur.

Working Safe

Before attempting to find a leaking hose on your Whirlpool dishwasher, always cut the electrical supply for the appliance. In most cases, you can do this at the main circuit breaker. Look for a switch labeled for the dishwasher or the kitchen and move it to the "Off" switch. You may want to place a piece of tape across the switch while you are working so it isn't accidentally turned on.

Water Supply Valve Connection

The dishwasher hose connects to your home water supply through the water supply valve, usually located underneath the kitchen sink. Most hoses will have a rotating coupling that screws onto the threads at the end of the water supply. Check this connection and ensure that it is tight by tightening it with a wrench.

Dishwasher Hose Connection

The other end of the dishwasher hose is connected to the inlet underneath the dishwasher, which is usually hidden behind a kick panel located underneath the dishwasher door. These panels can be removed by loosening the screws holding them in place. Examine the coupling on the dishwasher end of the hose to ensure that it is tight and, if not, tighten with a wrench or a pair of pliers.

Dishwasher Hose

If you can't find a leak at either end of the hose, there's a chance that the hose itself may be leaking. Inspect for leaks on the hose by feeling it up and down with your hands. You should feel a wet spot where the hose is leaking. Also look for telltale pools of water underneath the hose. Dishwasher hoses are relatively inexpensive and simple to replace.
