As you use the blade on the Bosch 1587AVS jigsaw, it will begin to dull. When this happens, the blade won't work as effectively. In addition, your jigsaw is less safe with a dull blade. The beauty of this particular jigsaw is that it has a built-in feature that allows you to change the blade quickly and safely.
Instructions
1. Disconnect the jigsaw from the power source. Move the blade-orbit selector lever, which is located on the bottom left side of the jigsaw, to the III position.
2. Locate the blade-change knob, which is on the top front part of the jigsaw handle. Pull the knob up and away from the blade as far as it will go.
3. Turn the blade-change knob counterclockwise (as viewed from the back of the jigsaw) three full rotations.
4. Put on your work gloves. Grasp the blade and slowly push it up. The blade tabs will release once the blade is pushed up, after which you will be able to finish sliding the blade up and out of the jigsaw.
5. Insert the new blade perpendicular to the direction that the blade normally faces. Turn the blade forward and slide it into the grooves. Pull down on the blade until the blade tabs lock into the bottom plunger.
6. Turn the blade-release knob clockwise until you hear a click. Press the knob down to lock the blade in place. Continue turning the knob clockwise until it is aligned with the handle. Press down the knob to return it to a flush position.
