Types Of Potty Seats

Types of Potty Seats

Potty training can be both an exciting and frustrating time for parents and toddlers alike. It can be hard to tell if your child is ready to train, not only developmentally but physically as well. Their brain and their muscles must be ready to know when to let it out and hold it in. An important part of the process is the potty seat. You may find that your child responds better to different types of seats, and they can be very particular at this stage of life. You'd be well-suited to try a few different kinds of seats to see which type your child will prefer and what works best for your lifestyle and budget.

Free-Standing Potty Seats

The free-standing potty seat features a seat, typically lined with some sort of cushion or padding, which is positioned on top of a plastic basin. The seat itself is removable to allow for easy clean-up. After each use, the waste is disposed in the toilet and the basin is rinsed clean. The basin can also be flipped over for use as a step stool, making hand washing a bit easier. It can be used without the presence of a toilet, and is helpful at the beginning stages of potty training, when toddlers are being acclimated to sitting the potty. Portability makes it possible to place youngsters in other areas of the home to become familiar with sitting on the potty, while they enjoy some reading or television. This type of seat is typically the most fun and interactive and tends to be more costly. Many brands, such as Fischer-Price, have designed these seats in the likeness of popular characters and added musical stimulation.

Toilet-Attached Potty Seats

The toilet-attached potty seat is generally the least expensive choice. It is simpler in terms of design, as it fits any standard-sized toilet, and is generally equipped with just a cushioned seat for comfort and hand rails for sturdiness. This type of seat is easy to clean, requiring only a wiping, and most brands include an adhesive hook that can be attached to the wall for easy storage of the seat when not in use.

Portable Potty Seats

The portable potty seat is the choice of busy parents who must take potty training on the go. Its compact portability allows it to be pulled out of a diaper bag or purse for use in public facilities with larger, germ-ridden toilets. It can be folded into quarters when not in use for convenient storage, and most brands offer a storage bag. It ranges in price but is comparable to the toilet-attached seat.

Convertible Potty Seats

The convertible potty seat offers the best of both worlds. It's a great option for parents who are unsure of the method of potty training they will use. It comes fully equipped for use as a free-standing seat, but can also be used as a toilet-attached seat. The cushioned seat is simply removed and placed on top of the toilet and can easily be reattached to the basin until the preferred method is found. It is similar in price to a free-standing seat.
