Troubleshoot Dirty Dishes In Dishwashers

Dishwashers don't always adequately clean your dishes.

Regardless if you own an old dishwasher with only basic amenities or a new dishwasher with myriad features, the general functions of the dishwashers are the same. Specifically, dishwashers need to wash dishes. If the dishes in your dishwasher come out dirty after a load finishes, the problem is likely caused by an error you made when loading the dishwasher.

Instructions

1. Move any casserole dishes, baking pans or other tall dishes to the rear of the dishwasher. These items can block the detergent dispenser door from opening when they are located at the front of the dishwasher.

2. Remove debris from around the filter at the base of the dishwasher. This filter must be clean and free of debris in order for the dishwasher to drain correctly. If the dishwasher doesn't drain, the food that should have been removed from the appliance stays inside the dishwasher.

3. Change the wash settings so that the dishes are washed on an elevated setting when there seems to be a lot of food left on dishes. Examples of extra-powerful settings include "ProWash" and "Heavy Duty."

4. Check your home's hot water heater. It should be set at a minumum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Water that comes in to the appliance at a cooler temperature will not remove food from the dishes as effectively as it should.

5. Always use at least the recommended amount of detergent and use more detergent if you are washing an especially dirty load.

6. Pre-rinse the dishes before you load them into the washer if they still have a lot of food stuck to them.
