Clean Mold In A Ge Washing Machine

GE Appliances offers front-loading and top-loading washing machines. Both types can be susceptible to mold over time. While newer GE washers offer a "Basket Clean" setting to help reduce mold growth, you should still clean your GE washer regularly to prevent mold. GE Appliances recommends that you clean the interior of your washing machine at least once a month to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

Instructions

1. Dilute 1/4 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water into a bucket.

2. Search for the rubber gasket along the door's opening if you have a front-loading washing machine. Pull the rubber gasket away from the door frame with your hands. The gasket is flexible and does not need to be removed. The gasket is manufactured to be able to be stretched to allow proper cleaning of the washing machine. Use a sponge, or cloth, to wash along the gasket and allow the bleach mixture to soak for about five minutes or longer if needed. Rinse the gasket with a clean cloth saturated with water. Drain lines are underneath the gasket so you will not need to remove excess water when you are finished; it will drain out on its own.

3. Dip your cloth into the bleach mixture and wipe along the lid of a top-loading washer. Allow the bleach to soak for about five minutes and rinse it off with a fresh towel or sponge.

4. Wipe the detergent drawer and any exterior parts that require cleaning.

5. Fill your washer with 1 cup of bleach and set it to wash on the washer's hottest setting. Allow the washer to run a full cycle while empty of clothing articles and only use bleach. Do not use laundry detergent. If your GE washer has a "Basket Clean" setting, use this setting with 1 cup of bleach.
