Clean Stainless Steel Barbeque Grill

Clean stainless steel barbecue grills after each use.

Grilling foods outdoors is relaxing and entertaining for many homeowners. However, there's nothing appetizing about grilling on a grill blackened with residue and grime. With each use, stainless steel barbecue grills accumulate grease, food residue and ashes. Cooking on dirty stainless steel grills prevents burners from working efficiently and contaminates foods with bacteria. Fortunately, the wide grid configuration on stainless steel grills allows for simple maintenance. Clean barbecue grills after each use with certain solutions and supplies.

Instructions

1. Turn off the fuel source to the grill. Put on latex gloves to protect your hands while cleaning.

2. Spread newspapers over a flat surface. Open the grill over and remove the grill racks and burner covers.

3. Place the grill racks and burner covers on the newspapers. Scrape the ash, food residue and grime from the grill racks, using a barbecue scraper.

4. Fill a plastic bucket halfway warm water. Add 1/4 cup of liquid dish detergent to the water.

5. Submerge the burner covers in the soapy water. Scrub the burner covers with a nylon scrub brush to remove grime.

6. Rinse the burner covers with warm water. Set the burner covers on clean newspapers to air-dry.

7. Spread newspapers over a slab or driveway. Spray oven cleaner on both sides of the grill racks.

8. Lay the grill rack on the newspapers. Keep the oven cleaner on the grill racks for the amount of time recommended by the cleaner manufacturer.

9. Scrape off the residue from the grill racks, using the barbecue scraper. Remove stubborn grime with a scouring pad.

10. Rinse the grill racks thoroughly with water from a garden hose. Lay the grill racks on the clean newspapers next to the burner covers to air-dry.

11. Slide out the grill's ashtray and dump the debris into a garbage can. Clean the ashtray with the soapy solution, using the nylon scrub brush.

12. Rinse the ashtray with water. Place it on the clean newspapers next to the burner covers and grill grates to air-dry.

13. Lay the burner covers and grill grates back in the grill. Slide the ashtray back into its compartment.

14. Close the grill cover. Wash all exterior surfaces of the grill with the soapy solution, using a nylon sponge.

15. Dampen a cotton cleaning rag with water. Wipe the rag over the exterior surfaces of the grill to rinse away the soapy solution.

16. Dry the exterior surfaces of the grill with a clean terry cloth.
