Hang A Kitchen Pot Rack With Hooks And No Grid

Pot racks are a convenient, popular way to store pots and pans overhead in a kitchen, rather than keeping them in crowded cabinets. Pot racks also save time and strain on your body as you can easily reach and grab the items you need, rather than bending and stretching into the back of cabinets. Even if you don't have a lot of ceiling space or you have a very high ceiling you can install a pot rack without a large, hanging grid.

Instructions

1. Measure the amount of wall space you have available. This might be over the sink or over the stove. Make sure there is enough vertical room for your longest pan or pot plus a few inches. Measure how much horizontal space you have as well. You will want a space 12 to 36 inches across. Ideally, this space will also have wall studs where they will help support the weight of the pots and pans.

2. Purchase a handrail bar, used for support in the bathroom or other rooms of the house, that will fit horizontally in the space you measured. Sold in home improvement or hardware stores, these bars are designed to support the weight of an average adult, so they should safely hold your pots and pans. The package may indicate how much weight it will support. Weigh your cookware to be sure that the bar will be sturdy enough.

3. Purchase a set of metal shower curtain hooks or S-hooks, from a department store or hardware store. Make sure they are wide enough to fit over the bar and the eye at the end of each pot or pan.

4. Use the stud finder to determine if wall studs are in the right location to help support the bar. With the pencil, mark where the bar will be attached to the wall, using the level to make sure the bar will sit evenly so the hooks will not slide. If studs are not in the right place, hammer in anchor screws to add support.

5. Hang the bar, installing the screws in the places you marked in pencil.

6. Set the large side of the hooks over the bar with the little hook on the bottom facing you, not the wall.

7. Place the eyes on the handles of the pots and pans over the bottom part of the hook.
