Clean Out Clogged Lines In A Dishwasher

Clogged lines in a dishwasher can result in water leaking.

Dishwashers come with many options, such as specific wash cycles for different types of china or cookware, delay start, antibacterial wash, adjustable racks and tines, water, temperature, soil and time sensors and digital displays. Even the most sophisticated wash option, however, won't matter if the dishwasher lines are clogged. Clearing clogged dishwasher lines can help restore the dishwasher to normal function and even prevent more serious problems.

Instructions

1. Disconnect power to the dishwasher. Open the dishwasher and pull out the bottom rack. Look for food debris or other items that may enter the pump or the filter and create clogs. Clean as necessary. Note that the filtration system or grinder in some dishwashers must be lifted out to clean and are located on the bottom of the tub.

2. Run the garbage disposal, if you have one, at the kitchen sink to help clear the drain hose. Make sure the knockout plug between the garbage disposal and the dishwasher drain hose is removed. Lift up the cap on the air gap, if there is one, and clean the hose lines inside.

3. Disconnect the hoses from the rear of the dishwasher after placing towels on the floor. Use a clean, damp cloth or small brush to clean out the inlet screen inside each hose.

4. Clean the inlet screens located at the hose connection point in the rear of the dishwasher. Remove any debris that may be clogging the area.

5. Reconnect the hoses to the dishwasher, drainage point and water faucets. Make sure the hoses are not bent or kinked. Restore power.
