Build A Bicycle With A Motor

Build a Bicycle With a Motor

With the increasing popularity of caring for the environment, more people are looking for effective ways to "go green." One of the best ways to help our environment is to limit how often you drive your car. The less you drive your car, the less fumes get into the air. A great way to reduce car travel is to build a bicycle with an electric motor on it. This will allow you to still get around at a decent pace while doing your part to save the planet. Another benefit to these type of bikes is the fact that you can save a lot of money on gas by riding your motorized bicycle around town.

Instructions

1. Take your magnet and test it on your bicycle to make sure that the frame is made of steel. A bike frame that is made out of a cheaper alloy will not be able to handle the torque and pressure of the electric motor, so it is essential to make sure you have the right type of bike before attaching the motor kit.

2. Take the wheel off of your bicycle. Turn the bicycle over and release the air out of the bike tire. Unhook the bicycle brakes from the wheel and check the tire over to make sure it is not damaged or cracked before going any further. If your tire is damaged beyond repair you will need to purchase a new one before continuing on.

3. Put the hub motor on your bicycle. Place the new rim with the hub motor on it between the forks. Take the torque arm tool and tighten the bolts to secure the hub motor in place. Place the wheel back on the bicycle and secure it in place.

4. Slip the grips off of the handle bars of your bike. Carefully install the new brakes with the throttle attached to the handlebars. Slip the grips back over top of the brake and throttle.

5. Secure a battery pack mount to your bicycle. Most motorized bikes have a battery mount attached to the seat post and to the rear axle of the bicycle for extra support.

6. Connect all the electronic wiring. The wires that are attached to your hub motor are color coded to help you connect the wires correctly to the controller. Once you have all the wires attached to the controller you can place your battery into the battery mount and connect it to the controller.

7. Test the bicycle to make sure everything is working properly. Before you give the bike a test run you should put on pads and a helmet to ensure your safety when riding the bike.
