Bleach A Dishwasher

Bleaching your dishwasher can make it look like new.

In addition to smelling and looking bad, a buildup of mold and mildew in your dishwasher can prevent your dishes and utensils from getting properly clean, and may even pose a health risk. Chlorine bleach not only kills the microorganisms that cause these problems, but can also whiten the interior of your dishwasher.

Instructions

1. Open your dishwasher. Remove all dishes and utensils, and any leftover dishwasher soap in the soap dispenser. Remove food particles or any other debris -- especially in the utensil holder and dishwasher rack -- with a toothbrush dipped in baking soda paste.

2. Place 1/2 cup of liquid bleach on the bottom shelf of the dishwasher in a bowl or cup. Run a regular wash cycle. Allow the dishwasher to complete the entire cycle, including the drying mode.

3. Remove the cup or bowl from the dishwasher. Wipe down the inside of the dishwasher with a dry towel to ensure that no bleach remains.

4. Place a cup or bowl containing 2 cups of white vinegar on the bottom rack of the dishwasher, and run a low-wash cycle. Stop the dishwasher halfway through the cycle, and allow the vinegar to sit in the dishwasher for 20 minutes before completing the cycle.
