Winter temperatures can freeze your water valves, not letting you close the water supply.
Winterizing the water pipes for cottages, or any building, is necessary when they will not have any inhabitants for a long time. Winterizing is especially important for areas with extreme winter temperatures. If you do not properly winterize your water pipes you can have the pipes freeze and crack, creating water leaks all over the cottage.
Instructions
1. Close the water supply into the cottage. Turn of the water supply valve.
2. Open all the faucets in the cottage and let the water that is in the lines pour out.
3. Drain the water heater tank. Open the water heater drain valve and empty out all the water in the tank. Use the bucket to catch the water.
4. Drain all the toilets of water. Flush your toilet and hold down the lever until no more water is in the toilet bowl.
5. Drain the water out of your fridge if you have a fridge with water on the door. Keep getting water until the fridge runs out.
