Clean Hard Water Off Stainless Steel

Keep your stainless steel sink free of water stains with home remedies.

Stainless steel fixtures or appliances in the kitchen or bath add polish and a classic look. Unfortunately, minerals in your water supply can leave white, cloudy deposits on your stainless steel. Although many commercial products are available to remove these hard-water stains from stainless steel, you can do the job effectively with supplies from home and avoid the exposure to harsh chemicals.

Instructions

1. Lemon juice helps loosen and remove some of the minerals found in hard-water stains.

Cut a lemon in half with a paring knife. Rub the cut side of the lemon on the stainless steel at the site of the hard-water stains. Leave the lemon juice on the surface of the stainless steel for up to 10 minutes.

2. Rinse the lemon juice from the stainless steel by wiping it down with a clean cloth, dampened with plain water. This will also help remove hard-water stains.

3. Pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar into a 2-cup spray bottle. Add water to fill the remainder of the spray bottle. Shake the liquids to mix together.

4. A spray bottle makes it easy to apply your stain remover.

Spray your diluted vinegar mixture onto the stainless steel so the remaining hard-water stains are completely covered. Allow the vinegar solution to sit on the hard water stains for 10 minutes. Vinegar is a safe, effective cleaner for stainless steel and removes hard-water stains without chemicals.

5. Apply more vinegar spray to the stainless steel surface, then scrub with your nylon scrubber. Rinse with water and dry the stainless steel completely with a clean towel.
