A good, thorough cleaning will get rid of odors in your dishwasher.
If your dishwasher has a foul odor coming from it even after running it, food residue is more than likely the cause. Even though you use dishwasher detergent, odors can still lurk in a dishwasher because of food hiding in the crevices. Get rid of the stink with a simple, thorough cleaning, and do it regularly to keep the smells away.
Instructions
1. Rinse food off dishes before loading them in your dishwasher. Food can leave a foul smell in your dishwasher. Even though the dishwasher cleans the dishes, food can still get stuck in between the door where you cannot see without inspecting.
2. Empty the dishwasher. Use a small scrub brush, such as an old toothbrush, with hot water and dishwashing liquid to clean around and under the black rubber seals and the hinges.
3. Wipe down the inside of the dishwasher -- including the racks, top, bottom and doors -- using a wet dish rag or a soft sponge. You can use vinegar and water instead of soap and water. This will help freshen up the dishwasher.
4. Inspect the drain area for food debris or even chipped glass that may be stuck in the drain.
5. Fill a dishwasher-safe cup with vinegar and place on the top rack of the dishwasher. Run the dishwasher without any other dishes on the hottest water setting.
