Why Does My Frigidaire Washing Machine Buzz When I Close It

A washing machine sometimes buzzes when you close it, notifying you that something is wrong with the washer. Although the problem could be as minor as the door not shutting properly, the sound could also indicate a more serious problem. Regardless of the issue's potential magnitude, the most important thing is to investigate the buzz further to identify the exact cause and correct it.

Door

A Frigidaire washing machine will buzz if the door isn't fully shut. The door must close all the way so it locks after you press "Start" and before the fill cycle begins. Open and firmly close the door again. Once the door is completely closed, the buzzing should stop.

Locking Mechanism

A consumer of the Frigidaire Affinity washing machine posted on the Consumer Reports product review website in 2008 that her washing machine buzzed after she closed it during the wash cycle. At first, she was able to press on the door to make the buzzing stop, although eventually this remedy no longer was effective and she was forced to contact Frigidaire. A technician inspected her washer and determined that the buzzing was caused by a broken locking mechanism and replaced it. Contact Frigidaire if you suspect the locking mechanism on your washer is damaged, which may be causing your washer to buzz when you close it.

No Digital Display

Your Frigidaire washing machine buzzes and indicator lights on the control panel blink to denote problems. To retrieve the error code on a washer model without a digital display, simply count the number of times the Control, Door Lock, Wash, Rinse and Final Spin indicator lights flicker to get the first number of a two-digit error code. Count the number of blinks made by the Start indicator to get the second digit of the error code. Once you have the error code number, look it up in the manual to find the problem. In the meantime, hit "Pause Cancel" to stop the washer from making noise and flashing its lights.

Digital Display

If your washer has a digital display, the washer should display the error code in the window while it's buzzing and the indicator lights flash. Once you've written down the error code, touch "Pause Cancel" to quiet the washer. Look up the code in the washer's manual and address the problem if it's something you can do or contact Frigidaire to have the washer serviced. Sometimes a washer displays an error code if the water supply valve needs to be turned on or, in other cases, it might be because the washer is leaking.
