Mounting brackets around the door frame may cause your dishwasher to stick under the counter.
An installed, under-the-counter dishwasher may become stuck for a variety of reasons, including hose connections to the plumbing or a bent mounting bracket caused gradually by vibrations in the appliance. Once all hoses and the power cord are disconnected, it is relatively simple to locate the area where the dishwasher is stuck so the appliance can be removed for repairs or replacement. Get the job done with common household tools.
Instructions
1. Open the cabinet doors below the sink to locate and close the water-supply knob to the dishwasher. The knob twists clockwise to shut the water valve.
2. Cut the power to the dishwasher at the circuit breaker, and unplug the appliance electrical cord from the wall outlet.
3. Unscrew the supply hose to the dishwasher from the water valve and the drain hose to the sink drain pipe, using a screwdriver to loosen hose clamps and pliers to unscrew the threaded couplings.
4. Open and lower the dishwasher door to inspect the brackets in the frame where the appliance is bolted to the cabinets and countertops. Take out the screws in the metal brackets that secure the dishwasher.
5. Pull the appliance forward in an effort to remove it from under the counter. If it sticks, check the source of the resistance. For example, a dishwasher that's caught on the top front bracket where it attaches to the underside of the countertop can be freed by bending the bracket slightly with pliers.
6. Guide the water supply and drain hoses through the holes in the side of the cabinet adjacent to the dishwasher so the hoses dangle behind the appliance inside the installation space. Push the power cord through the hole in the cabinet so that it is free behind the appliance.
7. Remove any objects dropped below the dishwasher that may be snagged on the kick panel.
8. Slide the dishwasher into the kitchen for repairs or replacement.
