My Hotpoint Dishwasher Leaks When It'S Draining

The Hotpoint dishwasher is manufactured by General Electric and features a power scrub wash system, durable tub, water filtration system, hard food disposer, pre-wash option, and a quiet motor. The dishwasher is sold online and in select appliance stores and should function well under most circumstances. If issues do arise, such as if the dishwasher leaks water during the drain cycle, homeowners may want to consider some troubleshooting or repairs.

Drain Hose

One of the most likely reasons for a Hotpoint dishwasher to leak when it drains is a problem with the drain hose. Turn off and disconnect the dishwasher and then set towels under the drainage hose. Disconnect the hose in order to inspect it and clear away any potential blockages. There is an inlet screen inside the hose as well as at the dishwasher connection point. Clean these screens out as well. When you reconnect the drain hose, make sure the connection is snug and the drain hose is straight.

Air Gap

Some homes have an air gap installed on the kitchen sink, which is a metal or plastic dome on the rear corner of the sink. This device is connected to the dishwasher and can create a drain problem if it is obstructed, forcing water back down into the drain line and possibly causing a leak. Pull off the air gap cap and disconnect the drain line inside. Clean it out by flushing it with water and then reconnect before returning the air gap lid.

Garbage Disposal

Another common culprit for dishwasher leaks and drainage problems is the kitchen garbage disposal. Take a look where the dishwasher connects to the garbage disposal under the sink. If the knockout plug, which is a hard plastic piece, is still in place between the dishwasher line and the disposal, the water cannot flow between the two. Running the garbage disposal to help clear the drain is also a good idea.

Repair Issues

Unfortunately, there are parts on the dishwasher that may get worn out, broken or damaged and will require replacement or repair. This includes the pump, solenoid and/or drain valve. If troubleshooting efforts do not resolve the leak or drainage problem, contact Hotpoint, GE or another service professional for help.
