Microwave trim kits are a great accessory because they help your microwave blend into your cabinets, and they cover the gaps between the mounting shelf and cabinet faces if the microwave is too small. When it comes time to replace your microwave or install a new one, the trim kit needs to be removed. Trim kits are installed with screws and, therefore, are removed by taking off these screws, which are usually located around the base of the microwave.
Instructions
1. Unplug your microwave oven and push it back slightly on your shelf. If the microwave is screwed to a shelf, first locate the mounting screw heads under the cabinet shelf that holds the microwave and loosen them. Then slide the microwave back.
2. Locate the mounting hardware attaching the microwave trim kit to the cabinet bases. Most hardware attaches on each corner. Holes are drilled through the trim and into the cabinets to mount the trim pieces.
3. Remove the screws that are holding the trim kit to the cabinets one at a time. Remove the trim pieces from the cabinet. If the pieces do not come off, go to Step 4.
4. Check for additional trim mounting hardware along the underside of the cabinet shelf. Some trim kits attach along the underneath, front, side edge of the cabinets. If there is hardware there, remove it. Remove the trim kit pieces.
