Clean your Viking ceramic cooktop with special products to avoid marring the surface.
Many home cooks appreciate the versatility and convenience of Viking cooktops. Available in both electric and gas models, these cooktops are separate from an oven component, so you may install them on most countertops in a kitchen. If you own a Viking cooktop, you may notice that problems occasionally arise that prevent the appliance from operating effectively. You can fix many of these issues if you are able to recognize them when they occur.
Burners Do Not Light
A Viking cooktop's burners may occasionally fail to light. The burners will fail to light if the cooktop does not have an adequate power supply, so ensure that you have it plugged into a working outlet. If the outlet is not receiving power, check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Reset the circuit breaker or replace necessary fuses so the cooktop receives the necessary power. If you suspect that the power in your home has gone out, call your electric company to determine if there is an outage in your neighborhood.
Gas Burner Igniters Spark But Do Not Light
Viking gas cooktops require a steady supply of gas to operate properly. To generate a proper flame, the burners' igniters must spark, which you can observe by listening for a clicking sound. If you notice that the igniters are sparking but do not produce a flame, it likely means that the cook top is not receiving an adequate supply of gas. Check to see if the gas supply valve is in the off position. If the valve is on but there is no gas reaching the cooktop, contact your gas company to see if your service has been interrupted.
Gas Burner Flames Are Large and Erratic
While a Viking gas cooktop's failure to produce burner flames can affect cooking, large flames may affect it as well. Flames should be low, steady and blue in color. If you observe that the flames from your cooktop's burners are high, erratic or yellow in color, the burners may be dirty. Examine the burner ports for clogs and gently clear away any obstructions using a straight pin. If the ports are clean, the cooktop may be set up for the wrong type of gas. Contact a service technician to examine the installation and make any necessary changes.
Streaks, Spots or Marks Appear on Ceramic Cooktop
Some Viking electric cooktops have a ceramic surface. On some occasions, you may notice streaks, spots or other marks on the surface. Typically, these blemishes are the result of using the wrong type of cleanser to clean the ceramic burners. Because the surface is different from the standard porcelain finish of most cooktops, Viking recommends that you use a ceramic cleansing cream and damp paper towel to clean the burners after they cool. If a stain burns onto the ceramic, use a razor scraper after the cream and paper towel to carefully scrape away any remaining debris.
