Remove The Pump On A Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

The pump on a Kenmore Elite dishwasher pumps out the used dishwasher from the cabinet and into the sewer system. Although a number of filters inside the appliance protect the pump, sometimes food or debris can get down to the pump, causing it to stick. When that happens, you can get your Kenmore Elite working again when you remove the pump and clean out anything inside.

Instructions

1. Turn off the power for the Elite dishwasher, cutting it at the main circuit breaker.

2. Remove the screws holding the panel just beneath the dishwasher door in place. These screws are usually located on the sides of the panel. If needed, loosen the clamps holding the dishwasher in place beneath the counter so you can pull the dishwasher out a few inches to access the screws. Remove the panel.

3. Look for the dishwasher pump, using a flashlight, if necessary. The rubber drain hose connected to the outlet on the pump will help you identify the pump.

4. Use a screwdriver or a pair of pliers to loosen the clips on the drain pump hoses, depending on the type of clamps in place. Slide the clamps down the pump hoses and pull the hoses off the pump.

5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the pump. Simply pull it out of the side with a pair of needlenose pliers.

6. Loosen the clips holding the pump in place on the motor assembly with a pair of needlenose pliers.

7. Grasp the pump firmly and turn it counterclockwise. Pull the pump out of the motor assembly.
