Replace The Internal Hose In A Dishwasher

An important part of a dishwasher is the water supply hose.

A dishwasher is a modern convenience that many people use on a daily basis to make their lives easier. One of the most important parts on a dishwasher is the internal hose, otherwise known as the water supply hose. The hose connects the dishwasher's water inlet valve to the hot water line under the kitchen sink. A common problem that occurs with dishwashers is that the water supply hose starts to wear and may begin to leak. The hose must be replaced to avoid water damage.

Instructions

1. Turn off the hot water shutoff valve under the kitchen sink by turning its handle or knob completely clockwise.

2. Remove the kick plate on the bottom front of the dishwasher. The plate may be secured with Phillips screws, standard screws or with small nuts. Use the appropriate bit installed in a multi-screwdriver or the empty socket of the screwdriver to remove the fasteners. In some cases you may need to use a socket wrench with the appropriate size socket. On some dishwashers there may be a panel under the kick plate that must be removed.

3. Locate the water supply hose that connects to the dishwasher's water inlet valve. The valve is usually toward the front on the left side. You may need to lie on the floor to access the hose.

4. Detach the hose from the valve using an adjustable wrench to turn the fitting on the end of the hose counterclockwise. Once the fitting is loose enough, remove it completely by hand.

5. Look under the sink and find the other end of the supply hose, which is attached to the hot water shutoff valve. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the hose fitting from the shutoff valve by turning it counterclockwise. Remove the hose fitting completely from the shutoff and pull it through the cabinet. Dispose of the old hose.

6. Wrap the threads of the shutoff valve with Teflon tape to help seal the connection. Wrap the tape clockwise around the threads to prevent it from coming off when the fitting is connected. Connect one end of the new hose to the shutoff valve and tighten it using the adjustable wrench. Turn the fitting clockwise to secure it to the valve.

7. Feed the other end of the hose through the hole in the cabinet and pull it up to the dishwasher's water inlet valve from underneath the dishwasher. Screw on the fitting to the water inlet valve after you have wrapped the threads with Teflon tape. Tighten the fitting using the adjustable wrench.

8. Replace the kick plate and turn on the shutoff valve to restore water to the dishwasher.
