A kick-space heater is also known as a toe-space heater. It is installed below a cabinet or vanity. It can also be found in stairways or under window seats. These heaters are small and can be added where baseboard or wall heaters cannot fit. They often do a better job than baseboard heaters. Kick-space heaters come with thermostats, timers and safety shutoff features. You can install this heater in an afternoon and add some warmth to your home.
Instructions
1. Turn off all power to the circuit you will be working on. Cut the opening on the wall for the switch box. Find a convenient and easy to reach place like over a kitchen counter. Cut it out with a utility knife and throw away the drywall debris.
2. Line up the heater at the desired location and drill small holes at each corner with a drill bit. Cut out along the holes with a utility knife and remove the drywall and debris.
3. Fish the first cable from the heater opening through the switch box opening. Leave two feet of clearance outside of the heater opening. Attach the cable to the switch box with a cable clamp. Secure a second cable to the switch box with a cable clamp and fish it from the switch box to the heater opening. Pull it out so there is two feet of clearance like the previous cable.
4. Locate the junction box and connect the new cable wires to the existing wires in the box. Make the connections in the switch box according to the manufacturer's instructions. Fold all the wires in place and inside the box and install the switch. Attach the provided cover plate to the wall with a screwdriver and screws.
5. Connect the cables to the heater and slide the heater into place over the opening. Screw it into the wall or cabinet with the supplied screws and a screwdriver. Turn the power to the circuit back on and test the heater to verify that it is working properly.
