Instructions For The West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Maker

A West Bend Stir Crazy Corn Popper is an electronic popcorn maker available in 6 Qt. and 8 Qt. models designed with a special motorized stirring rod that stirs the corn kernels so that each kernel is heated and cooked evenly. It features a non-stick, heat-resistant base, cover that doubles as a popcorn bowl and a butter well that distributes butter onto the popcorn as the kernels pops. The Stir Crazy has few parts and a simple design. As a result, once you add the ingredients you will have fresh popcorn ready within four to six minutes. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Place the base on a dry, level surface. Slide the stirring rod onto the screw at the center. Screw the control knob clockwise on to the screw until tight, to secure the rod.

2. Add your ingredients to the base in a level layer as follows: to make 8 quarts of popcorn -- 1 1/4 cup corn, 4 tbsp. oil; 6 quarts -- 1 cup corn, 3 tbsp. oil; 4 quarts -- 2/3 cup corn, 2 tbsp. oil; or 2 quarts -- 1/3 cup corn, 1 tbsp. oil.

3. Align the handles on the cover with the handles on the base. Secure the cover to the base. If you're making buttered popcorn, place six pats of soft butter in a level layer over the holes in the butter well; or wait until the kernels begin to pop and add six cold pats of butter.

4. Plug the power cord into the base and into an electrical socket. Wait four to six minutes for the corn to pop.

5. Unplug the unit. Grasp the base with one or more potholders and pull the cord carefully from it.

6. Check the butter well, if you used it to make buttered popcorn, for butter that didn't melt through the holes. If necessary, push the butter through the holes with a pastry brush.

7. Affix the plastic cap on to the butter well and push it in place until you feel it lock.

8. Turn the unit over and lift the base away -- making certain that as you lift the interior of the base it faces away from you. Set the base aside.

9. Sprinkle salt and/or toppings such as caramel, chocolate or nuts on the popcorn; or transfer the popcorn to another large bowl, then add toppings.

10. Repeat the steps to make additional popcorn or wait for the unit to cool and then wash the cover, cap, stirring rod, control knob and base interior with a warm soapy microfiber cloth. Rinse the parts except for the base under warm tap water and dry with another cloth. Rinse the base with a damp cloth and then dry; or rinse the base, wipe it with a vinegar-dampened cloth to remove any discoloration marks, rinse again and then wipe dry. Store the unit as desired.
