Clean Clogged Dishwasher Sprayers

Clogged sprayers in your dishwasher may prevent your dishes from coming out clean.


The sprayer arms on your dishwasher are essential in cleaning your dishes. Over time, the tiny holes in the sprayers may become clogged with food particles and other debris. When this happens, water flow is blocked and your dishes do not get clean. Remove the sprayers and clean them when they become clogged to keep water flowing properly and help to ensure each load of dishes gets clean.


Instructions


1. Take the sprayer arms out of the dishwasher. Some units have only one sprayer arm on the bottom while others have one on the top as well. Removing the sprayer arms will vary among models. Some will have a cap that is unscrewed by turning clockwise and lifting the arm off the base. Others will require a screwdriver to remove the screw holding it in place. The sprayer arms on some models may be attached with a clip that pops off. If you are unsure of remove the sprayer arms, refer to your owner's manual.


2. Rinse the sprayers under warm water. Scrub them thoroughly with a toothbrush.


3. Poke through each hole with a toothpick to remove any debris. Rinse again under warm water.


4. Scrub the base of the sprayer that is inside the dishwasher with a wet toothbrush. Wipe down the base with a sponge to remove the loosened debris.


5. Replace the sprayer arms in the dishwasher.
