Troubleshooting Frigidaire Washers

Frigidaire washers come in two different styles, front loading and top loading. They are designed to give you years of performance without having to be serviced year after year. Unfortunately, though, parts do wear out and things do break down. Troubleshooting your Frigidaire washer before you call out a technician could save you money. Look for easy solutions to common problems before having your machine professionally serviced.

Washer Will Not Start

If your washer will not start at all, check to make sure that the circuit breaker hasn't tripped. If it has, just flip it back on and the washer should start. Check your plug as well and make sure it is securely in the wall socket. Make sure that the door is completely closed as well.

Washer Not Filling With Water

If you are not getting water to the machine, make sure that the hoses are turned on. Look for kinks in the hoses as well. If everything looks fine, turn the water supply off. Remove the hoses from the back of the machine and clean out the inlets on the machine. Sometimes a buildup of sediment will stop the water flow. After cleaning, reattach the hoses and turn the water back on.

Washer Will Not Drain

A common problem with water not draining is that the drain hose gets kinked. Check also that the drain hose is not clogged. Make sure that your house drain is not the problem. Place a bucket near the washer and stick the washer drain hose inside it. Turn your washer back on and select the drain cycle. If it drains, the problem is in the house drain not the washer.

Washer Just Stopped

Many things can make your washer completely stop in the middle of a cycle. Check the circuit breaker to make sure it has not tripped. If you are washing a heavy load, the motor might have cut itself off to cool down. This will usually last for about 30 minutes. It is designed to do this so that the motor does not burn itself out. Wait for it to cool down and attempt to finish the wash cycle.

Troubleshooting your Frigidaire washer in this way will help prevent having to pay costly repair bills. It is usually the simple things that cause the most problems. Do not attempt any repairs to your washer if it is still under warranty. See your owner's manual for any additional information.
