Make A Portable Water Tank For Dry Camping

When dry camping, you need to bring water with you.

Dry camping is camping where there is no water source or water connection at the camping area, like in most desert back-country locales. When dry camping, it is essential you bring enough water for your trip. Accomplish this by bringing water tanks. Portable water tanks need not be fancy, just anything that has a top that can be closed, and is sanitary and sterilized before adding the water.

Instructions

1. Open up the old jugs or containers and add one tablespoon of bleach to each gallon it holds. Fill the jug two-thirds full of water along with the bleach. Close the top.

2. Shake the contents thoroughly to clean and sterilize the interior of the old jug. Open the cap and pour the contents down a drain. Turn on the water faucet and wash out the remaining bleach water residue.

3. Fill the cleaned water jugs with water. Add one or two purification tablets to the water if you are storing the water for more than one week. This keeps the water fresh when camping and when in storage.

4. Strap the portable water holder to your travel trailer or camper via bungee cords so you have quick access to the water tanks when needed. Screw a tap-style cap to the jugs and store with the tap upside down so you have a faucet-style water system mounted to your camper.
