Wash Kitchen Knives

There’s no doubting the fact that a knife is one of the most dangerous pieces of equipment in the kitchen. For this reason, people are extremely careful when using a knife. Yet, many of them fail to remember that washing a knife can be just as dangerous. With one wrong move, you’ll find yourself rushing to the ER. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way. All you have to do is follow a few easy steps when you wash your kitchen knives. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Avoid the dishwasher. You should never wash your kitchen knives in the dishwasher. Dishwashers not only ruin the handles of certain knives, but they can also ruin the blade. This happens as other items bang into the blades. Before you know it, your kitchen knives will be dull and in desperate need of honing.

2. Never place knives in the sink. One of the easiest ways to cut yourself is to place a knife in the sink. As you reach into the dishwater, you may grab the wrong end of the knife and end up with a horrible cut. Instead, place your kitchen knives on the edge of the sink until you’re ready to wash them.

3. Place the knife on a sturdy surface. As you wash each of your kitchen knives, place them on a steady surface, which will keep your knife from moving around too much as you wash it. One of the best places is the area in the middle of your kitchen sink.

4. Use a soft brush with a handle. When you wash kitchen knives, you want to stay as far away from the blades as possible. This means that you need to choose a soft brush with a handle. The soft brush will quickly wash the blade without scratching it.

5. Hand-dry your knives. Because kitchen knives are so dangerous, you will want to put them away as soon as you wash them. This means that it’s best to hand-dry them. In order to do this safely, you want to fold a kitchen towel until it’s thick enough to keep your hand safe. Once dry, put your kitchen knives back where they belong.
