Route A Dishwasher Drain Hose

Install your dishwasher drain hose properly to keep your dishes clean.

A dishwasher is a helpful timesaver in the kitchen, especially when cleaning up after a dinner party or celebration. These appliances work by spraying your dishes with water to remove food. The dirty water is then pumped out of the dishwasher and into your home's sewer system through a drain hose. These hoses need to be routed properly, otherwise they could allow dirty dishwater to be siphoned back into your home's water supply.

Instructions

1. Turn off the electricity to the dishwasher either by unplugging the dishwasher or turning the power off at the main circuit.

2. Position yourself at the back of the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is already installed in place, you might have to move it in order to access the part of the dishwasher where the drain hose is attached. Attach the drain hose to the drain port on the back of the washing machine. Secure with the hose clamp. Tighten the hose clamp with the screwdriver.

3. Position the middle portion of the hose at least a foot above the drain exit on the dishwasher. Secure this portion of the hose to the wall or cabinet with a pipe clamp. Use the screwdriver to secure the clamp.

4. Connect the other end of the dishwasher hose to either the hose connection on the sink trap or the garbage disposal, depending on your installation. Secure in place with the hose clamp. Tighten the clamp with the screwdriver.
