Connect A Washing Machine To A Kitchen Sink

Connect a Washing Machine to a Kitchen Sink

Whether it's a temporary or more permanent solution, for a variety of reasons you may find yourself needing to connect a washing machine to a kitchen sink. This is easily done when the kitchen faucet is threaded, as many of them are, and the threads match the threads on standard garden hoses or standard braided washing machine hoses. It's also important to select the best hardware possible, such as a metal rather than a plastic Y-splitter, to avoid leaking or other mishaps.

Instructions

1. Wrap plumber's tape around the threads of the faucet-to-hose coupler. Screw the faucet-to-hose coupling to the kitchen sink faucet.

2. Wrap plumber's tape around the garden hose coupler. Screw the single, female end coupler of the Y-splitter onto the garden hose coupler.

3. Fit the Y-splitter onto the kitchen sink faucet hose coupling. Wrap plumber's tape around the threads of the two male ends of the Y-splitter.

4. Screw the female end coupler of a garden hose onto one side of the Y-splitter. Wrap plumber's tape around the male end of the garden hose. Screw the male end of the garden hose into the cold water intake coupler.

5. Cut off the female end of the second garden hose. Attach another male end to it, so that it now has two male ends.

6. Push the male end of the garden hose into the washing machine drainage hose. Tighten a hose clamp over the connection to make a water-tight seal.

7. Place the attached drainage garden hose into the kitchen sink drain. Tie the drainage hose to the water inlet hose if possible to minimize hazards. Tie the draining end of the drainage hose to the garden hose (inlet water) to keep the drainage hose in place so it doesn't spill water by slipping out of the kitchen sink.

8. Screw the female end of the hot water hose onto the other side of the Y-splitter. Wrap plumber's tape around the male end of the hot water hose and screw it into the hot water inlet connection of the washing machine.

9. Open the valves on the Y-splitter. Turn on cold and/or hot water from the kitchen sink. Run the washing machine on a short cycle once without clothes to test connections and function.
