Homemade Dishwasher Detergent & Castile Soap

It is easy to make homemade dishwasher detergent using fresh lemons.

Making your own dishwasher detergent with liquid castile soap is much less expensive than buying a commercial product. It is also better for the environment. Castile soap is mild and does not contain any harsh chemicals. Homemade dishwasher detergents made with this soap will leave your dishes clean and spot free. It is easy to mix your own detergent and to store it in an empty plastic container.

Instructions

1. Combine ¼ cup each of distilled white vinegar, water and liquid castile soap into a small bowl. You can find the liquid castile soap in pharmacies, health food stores and some grocery stores.

2. Add 1 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice to the bowl, as suggested by the Recycle Your Day website. Stir the mixture well.

3. Pour the mixture into a clean plastic container with a lid.

4. Use just 1 tbsp. of the homemade dishwasher detergent in your dishwasher load. If the dishes are heavily soiled, you may need to use two tablespoons.
