Troubleshoot A Whirlpool Gu1500

Homeowners can make minor repairs on the Whirlpool GU1500 dishwasher.

The Whirlpool GU1500 dishwasher is equipped specialized features to get your dishes spotless. It can disinfect and scour soiled dishes, but has settings gentle enough to clean even the most fragile china. When your GU1500 isn't working properly, troubleshoot typical operation and washing problems on your own before calling for expensive service. Some issues are easy to fix.

Instructions

1. Open and close the door if the Whirlpool GU1500's control panel display shows two dashes. Push in the door until it latches.

2. Press the control panel's keypad for the correct cycle if your Whirlpool GU1500 dishwasher won't start. Look for indicator light to illuminate. Wait for the cycle to start.

3. Repair or replace any blown fuses in your fuse box. Reset the circuit breaker if circuits have flipped to the "off" position.

4. Press down on the overfill protection float in the right corner of the Whirlpool GU1500's dishwashing tub if the unit won't fill. Press until the float releases and moves easily. Remove any objects obstructing its motion. The dishwasher won't run with a stuck protection float.

5. Wait a few minutes. It's possible the Whirlpool GU1500's motor has overloaded or the cycle is experiencing a normal pause. Call a service technician if the problem remains.

Washing Problems

6. Increase the Whirlpool GU1500's water temperature to at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Select a setting that is appropriate for heavily soiled dishes.

7. Remove old or caked detergent from the detergent dispenser if dishes aren't being cleaned. Refill the Whirlpool GU1500's dispenser with fresh detergent. Use at least 1 tbsp. of detergent for each load. Add more if you have very soiled dishes or hard water. Follow the instructions on the detergent box for exact measurements.

8. Examine the pump and spray arm area in the bottom of your Whirlpool GU1500 dishwasher if your dishes are soiled after a cycle. Remove any obstructions, such as labels from bottles and cans, that are clogging the pump or spray arm.

9. Fill the detergent dispenser with 1 to 3 tsp. of citric acid crystals if your dishes have brown stains after a cycle. Select a normal wash cycle and don't use detergent. Install an iron-removal unit to your Whirlpool GU1500 if the stains appear frequently.

10. Select the air-dry or heated drying option if dishes have orange stains. Select a rinse cycle to reduce staining. Fill a measuring cup with 2 cups of vinegar and place it on the Whirlpool GU1500's bottom rack if your dishes are spotted. Run a normal wash cycle and select an air-dry or energy-saving dry setting. This removes spots from your dishes.
