Installing a dishwaher correctly is fairly straightforward.
Replacing your old dishwasher with a new one is a fairly straightforward process, provided you follow the installation steps in their correct order. The most important part of the installation is ensuring that the solid copper power supply earth wire is attached securely to the dishwasher chassis. Correctly attached, the earth wire eliminates the possibility of electrical shock caused by wiring faults or water leaks. Although leveling the machine and setting it flush with the adjacent cabinets is not critical to its operation, lining the dishwasher up correctly adds a professional touch to the installation.
Instructions
Preparation
1. Lay the dishwasher on its back so that you can access the plumbing and electrical connections.
2. Remove the two screws holding the bottom kick-plate cover to the new dishwasher with a flat tipped screwdriver and lay it on one side. Undo the screw holding the cover to the electrical housing on the underside of the dishwasher and lay it on one side; the electrical housing is easily identified by the orange warning bars printed across the top.
3. Undo the hose clamp holding the water return hose to the top of the garbage disposer under the sink with the screwdriver. Pull the hose off the disposer, remove the hose clamp and pull the old hose through the hole in the right side of the sink cabinet.
4. Place the hose clamp from the old hose over the rubber transition piece on the end of the new ribbed plastic waste water return hose. Thread the new hose through the hole in the sink cabinet. Push the rubber transition piece over to the garbage disposer return hose outlet and tighten the hose clamp securely.
5. Locate the dishwasher shut-off valve connected to the sink faucet hot water line with a T piece. Ensure that the dishwasher shut-off valve is closed firmly. Undo the coupling connecting the old dishwasher water supply hose to the shut-off valve with a pair of channel pliers and remove the hose.
6. Insert the new dishwasher hot water supply hose through the hole in the right of the sink cabinet. Thread the compression coupling fitted to the end of the new supply hose onto the dishwasher shut-off valve, and tighten the coupling securely with the channel pliers.
7. Thread the compression coupling on the other end of the new dishwasher water supply hose onto the L-shaped brass dishwasher connector piece supplied with the hose. The other side of the L-shaped connector is fitted with a knurled female threaded coupling similar to a garden hose connector. This coupling screws onto the blue plastic downward-facing male thread of the dishwasher water inlet; the blue plastic fitting is attached to the underside of the dishwasher on its lower left corner.
8. Locate the white plastic waste return hose protruding from the bottom of the new dishwasher. Squeeze the two lugs on the correct size compression type hose clamp together with the channel pliers. Slip the hose clamp all the way over the black rubber end piece attached to the end of the waste water return hose until it rests loosely on the white plastic section of pipe.
9. Pull the ends of the dishwasher waste water hose, the end of the dishwasher supply hose and the dishwasher power supply wires protruding from the wall toward the front of the dishwasher cavity.
Installation
10. Stand the dishwasher upright and slide it partway into the cavity. Reach underneath and pull the pipes and wires through to the front of the dishwasher.
11. Push the two sheet metal dishwasher retainer plates supplied with the dishwasher into the retainer slots on top of the dishwasher and bend the end tabs down to secure the retainer plates.
12. Adjust the two threaded leveling pads on the bottom corners of the dishwasher by screwing them in or out by hand while lifting the dishwasher. Adjust until the front of the dishwasher is perpendicular, and the top clears the underside of the kitchen counter top; final leveling will be done later. Slide the dishwasher all the way into the cavity until the front edges are flush with the adjacent kitchen cabinets.
13. Push the ribbed end of the waste water supply hose leading from the garbage disposer all the way into the black rubber end piece of the dishwasher waste water return hose. Compress the lugs on the hose clamp placed over the pipe earlier with the channel pliers. Slide the hose clamp back over the rubber end piece and release the tension on the side lugs; push the hose back into the cavity under the dishwasher and ensure that the sides of the hose are clear of any obstructions.
14. Thread the knurled female threaded coupling attached to the L-shaped connector on the dishwasher water supply hose onto the blue plastic male thread protruding from the bottom of the dishwasher. Tighten the knurled coupling by hand and snug it down with the channel pliers, but do not over-tighten. Tighten the compression coupling attached to the supply hose firmly with the channel pliers.
15. Bend the end of the solid copper earth wire into a U with a pair of needle nose pliers, and slip it between the green earth nut on the electrical housing and the dishwasher chassis. Tighten the green earth nut securely with a nut driver.
16. Twist the black power wire and the black dishwasher wire together, and the white power wire and the white dishwasher wire together. Screw plastic wire nuts securely onto the connected ends and tuck the wires neatly into the electrical housing. Re-attach the housing cover with the screw removed earlier.
17.Place a spirit level vertically across the front left and right edge of the dishwasher and adjust the leveling pads in turn until the bubble centers itself on both sides. Push the washer in or out until the sides of the door are flush with the adjacent cabinets.
18. Open the door and attach the two dishwasher connectors to the underside of the counter top with the two screws provided, and close the door to ensure that the top clears the underside of the counter.
19. Turn the dishwasher hot water shut off valve on. Switch the dishwasher on and allow it to complete a full cycle. Check all hose connections to ensure that there are no leaks; tighten the couplings further if necessary.
20. Screw the bottom kick-plate cover back onto the machine and adjust its floor clearance by sliding it up or down on the elongated screw hole slots. Tighten the screws securely to complete the installation.
