Troubleshoot A Magic Chef Wall Oven

Troubleshoot a Magic Chef Wall Oven

Magic Chef no longer produces new appliances, but they were once a popular brand, and many homes still feature a Magic Chef wall oven. Maytag acquired Magic Chef in 1986, according to John Mills' website, but the product designs remained the same. A variety of parts can break or malfunction, causing diminished heating or preventing the stove top burners from lighting or heating.

Instructions

1. Check that the oven is plugged into a wall outlet, and that the appropriate circuit breaker is not off. The Magic Chef Electric Range Care Guide explains this is the most obvious and easy-to-remedy cause of a nonworking oven. Also, Magic Chef ovens feature an oven lockout switch that can sometimes get tripped, and this switch will prevent the appliance from working until it is reset.

2. Measure the oven's actual temperature with a separate oven thermometer if the oven is burning or undercooking food. If the model uses natural gas, check the gas regulator with a device designed to measure its pressure, according to the Smith's RV Centre website. An electric model should have its heating element examined for debris that is possibly blocking the heat, such as a piece of aluminum foil.

3. Clean the burner ports on the stove top or inside the oven if flames are not produced in a gas-powered Magic Chef oven. These ports can become clogged with grease or food, according to Appliance411, but you can clean them with a toothpick.

4. Test the oven's ignition if it fails to switch on promptly. Both electric- and gas-powered Magic Chef ovens use ignition systems, and many of them are designed to be replaced regularly, according to Appliance411.

5. Look in the bottom of the oven for a small pilot light, if your Magic Chef oven features that type of ignition system. This light can go out due to a blockage in the supply pipe or in the burner port of the pilot light. A gust of wind could also extinguish the pilot too, according to the Smith RV Centre.
