If your Samsung refrigerator is experiencing problems, you may be able to identify and correct the issue by making a few minor adjustments. The funny rattle or icy build up may be a quick fix. If your troubleshooting fails to bring results, it may be time to call in a service repairperson. But, before you or a service repairperson attempt to make any repairs, check your appliance's warranty. Unauthorized repair work, even by a competent repairperson, can void a warranty.
Too Warm
If the refrigerator is plugged in, but not operating, check the electrical outlet before looking for problems with your Samsung refrigerator. Plug something else into the outlet to make sure there is power going to the appliance. For refrigerators that aren't cold enough, check the control panel to see if the temperature control is set properly. External conditions may also be a factor, such as sun shining directly on the appliance. If the refrigerator is still not cool enough, check to see how close it is to the back wall. If positioned too close, that can cause a problem. Pull it out a little from the wall, and see if that helps.
Freezing
Instead of not being cold enough, the refrigerator might be too cold or freezing. First, check to see if the control has been set to the coldest temperature. Perhaps the room temperature is very low. Look in the refrigerator for uncovered containers. Items with high water content or cups of uncovered liquid can cause a refrigerator to freeze up because of the condensation built up. If food is packed tightly in the refrigerator or against the refrigerator walls, this can inhibit necessary ventilation and cause problems for the appliance.
Noise
A noisy refrigerator may be the result of an unlevel or unstable floor. Place a level on the appliance to see if it is level and then make necessary adjustments. Being too close to the back wall won't just inhibit the cooling ability of the refrigerator, it can create noise. The funny noise may also be rattling from something you've placed on top of your refrigerator. If the noise is coming from the compressor, call 1-800-SAMSUNG. Some sounds are normal, such as the ticking sound caused by contraction and expansion.
Ice Maker
If your refrigerator has an ice maker that is not producing ice, check to see that the temperature in the freezer is set low enough. It will take about 12 hours after proper installation of the water line for ice to produce. If the ice storage unit is full or if the shut-off valve is closed, it will stop making ice.
