Hotpoint, a brand sold by GE Appliances, produces consumer products, including ovens, microwaves, refrigerators and dishwashers. It manufactures different types of ovens, including gas, electric, single and double ovens. GE recommends that you try troubleshooting problems with your oven before you contact the company for service. This saves you money on technician fees, especially if your oven warranty has expired.
Power Issues
If your Hotpoint oven won't turn on, check to see if it is connected to a power supply and that the power is on in your home. Check to see if your oven is turned on. Remove any other appliance from that outlet to keep it from drawing power away from the oven. Check your circuit breaker, and reset if tripped. If your oven doesn't work, but the grill does, check to see if you have your oven set to an auto cooking mode. If the "Auto" on your display is flashing or lit up, then change your oven back to manual mode. If your oven has a grill, you must grill with the oven door open, and you must allow the grill to cool down after use. If the timer is flashing "0:00," you must reset it. You may have experienced a power outage.
Oven Cooking
It is normal for your oven to emit an odor if it's new. It will dissipate after use. If it smokes or smells after several cycles, then it is dirty and you must clean it. Check to see if you have selected the correct cooking mode and that you are using the right dish for your food. If your food is burning, try reducing the temperature setting. If the bottom of the food is getting too brown, move the food up to a higher rack. Always allow enough air circulation around your food so that it cooks evenly.
Grill Cooking
It is normal for your grill to turn on and off if it's not on the "Max" setting. If your grill is not evenly cooking your food, check to see if the grill pan is in the correct position. Refer to your manual to determine the correct rack position for different types of food.
Additional Issues
If your timer buzzer keeps going off, turn off the tone by selecting the "Minute Minder" button. It is normal to see condensation on the wall near the vent. If you see steam or condensation in your oven after you turn it off, remove any food that is cooling in the oven, and use a covered container to cook food. If your oven lamp won't turn on, tighten the bulb if loose, or replace a burnt-out bulb.
