Gas Stove
Installing a gas stove is simple to do, but it takes undivided attention to detail. If certain important steps are overlooked, the home could very quickly fill with gas, which is toxic to humans and pets, and could very easily explode with the slightest spark of electricity. These steps will show you install a gas stove so that it is safe for long-term use for years to come.
Instructions
1. Locate the room' s gas line. In some homes, the gas line will be a corrugated hose coming out of the wall with a shut-off valve. In other homes, the gas line may look like a pipe with a cap on it and a valve. If you cannot locate a gas line in the room you want to put the stove, do not attempt to install one yourself. This is a job for professionals.
2. Make sure the line's valve is turned to "off" and remove the cap, if there is one. Most will twist off with the use of an adjustable wrench.
3. Test if your stove line will attach to the gas line by screwing them together. Some stoves need special attachments to make them compatible with some gas lines. These can usually be picked up at a hardware store.
4. Unscrew the gas line and stove line. Wrap the male hose end's threads with a smooth layer of Teflon pipe tape.
5. Screw the male hose into the female hose.
6. Tighten with the adjustable wrench.
7. Mix one cup of water with one tablespoon of dish washing liquid and turn on the gas by turning the gas line valve to "on."
8. Brush the mixture all around the the area where the two hoses are connected. If the mixture starts to bubble, then you have a gas leak. Use the small mirror to check underneath the line for bubbles.
9. Turn the gas off if you have a leak and repeat Step 5 through 8. If the gas is still leaking, turn it off and call your gas company. If there are no bubbles, the stove has been properly installed. Simply light the pilot light as instructed in the stove's owner's manual and use.
