Sometimes something will go wrong in your washing machine that will cause it to lock up or stall. An overloaded washer or a brief power surge can cause this. The washer may not drain or spin properly, or it may stop the cycle in the middle of the wash. Another cause may be that the washer was stopped before the cycle was able to complete. In this case, the washer will spin and drain over the next 24 hours, but it will stall before reaching the final spin. GE has two simple methods to reset the controls.
Instructions
Primary Method---Newer models
1. Unplug the washer.
2. Twist the control dial around the cycle settings.
3. Place the dial on any setting other than the final spin.
4. Ensure that the water line is securely attached to the washer.
5. Plug the washer back into the wall (making sure it has gone at least 30 seconds without power).
Alternate Method---Older Machines
6. Turn the dial around the cycle settings, but do not lift it to start the cycle.
7. Unplug the washer.
8. Plug the washer into the wall after 30 seconds without power.
9. Lift the washer lid five times, making sure it reaches a height of at least 6 inches or more. There should be no more than a 15-second interval between lifts.
10. Listen for a clicking noise. If a click is not heard, repeat steps 1 to 5 until you hear it.
11. Place a small load of laundry into the washer and start the cycle.
12. Watch the load throughout the wash to ensure the washer is working properly.
