A garbage disposal is a modern convenience that many people use every day. If you have a garbage disposal and a dishwasher, they are connected with a drain hose that runs between the two. If your garbage disposal leaks when you operate the dishwasher and at no other time, the problem is generally the connection of the dishwasher drain hose to the garbage disposal. This is a common problem, resulting from the hose being bumped when items under the sink are accessed.
Instructions
1. Open the cabinet door under the kitchen sink to gain access to the garbage disposal and the rest of the plumbing. Remove any items that may be in the way.
2. Locate the dishwasher drain hose. The hose is connected to the side of the garbage disposal and runs through the cabinet to the dishwasher.
3. Squeeze the end of the metal clamp that is around the connection of the dishwasher hose and the drain port on the disposal. This will loosen the clamp. If the clamp has a screw, turn the screw counterclockwise until it is loose enough to remove the hose.
4. Pull the hose off the garbage disposal. Reattach the hose and ensure it is tight against the disposal. Push the clamp to the end of the drain hose up against the disposal and tighten it.
