Flush your Jacuzzi pipes after each bath and once a month if not in regular use.
A little bit of still water can remain in your Jacuzzi bathtub's pipes after use, leading to bacteria build-up and drawing insects that are attracted to water. Regularly cleaning out your pipes, even when you don't use the tub, can help reduce the chance of bugs getting into your system. Since leftover bathwater can contain skin oil, skin cells and hair that can remain in the pipes, flushing the pipes after each use is the best method -- or before use if the Jacuzzi hasn't been used in a while.
Instructions
1. Check your pipes to see if they sag. Elevate them a few inches, which will help them drain better.
2. Ventilate your bathroom by opening a window or turning on the fan, while you flush the pipes.
3. Fill the bath with warm water. Pour in 1 cup of plain white vinegar, 5 percent solution, if you flush it out once a week. If you only flush it out once a month, replace the vinegar with 2 teaspoons of powdered dishwasher detergent and a ½ cup of bleach.
4. Activate your whirlpool system, according to manufacturer's instructions, and let it run for a few minutes.
5. Turn off the system and let it soak for one hour.
6. Turn the pump on again, letting it run for another five minutes.
7. Drain the tub and refill with cold water, letting it run for another five minutes to rinse out the system.
8. Repeat the process within a day or two if insects are still a problem, slightly increasing the quantity of vinegar or bleach.
