The best washing machines for clothes on the market have earned an EnergyStar designation from the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. According to EnergyStar.gov, washing machines that have earned this designation use at least 37 percent less water and 50 percent less energy than regular washing machines. Some of the top brands include LG, Whirlpool, Samsung and Maytag.
LG WM2301HW
The LG WM2301HW features a water heater, LCD electronic control panel, anti-vibration system and load sensing. With 4.2 square feet of washing capacity, the LG washing machine is designed to minimize washing noise in order to prevent disruption of daily activities. The washing machine also has child lock protection, auto suds removal, four leveling legs, forced drain system, four-tray dispenser and status indicator. As of 2011, the cost of the LG WM2301HW is about $800.
Whirlpool WTW7800XW
The Whirlpool WTW7800XW is a top-loading washer with 16 automatic cleaning cycles, along with a maximum spin speed of 1,100 RPM. The washer has 5.2 cubic feet of washing capacity and five selectable water temperatures. Additional features on the EnergyStar washing machine include a quiet speed technology, noise reduction system, auto load sensing and care control temperature management. As of 2011, the price of the Whirlpool washer is $1,100.
Samsung WF448AAW
The Samsung WF448AAW is a front-loading steam washer with 4.5 cubic-feet of washing capacity. The EnergyStar washing machine has 14 different wash cycles and technology that reduces noise and vibration. The system spins at 1,300 revolutions per minute, and the steam cleaning feature helps remove stains and extend the life of clothes. The price of the washing machine is $1,400, as of 2011.
Maytag Bravos MVWB750WB
The Maytag Bravos MVWB750WB is a top-loading washer with 5.0 cubic-feet of washing capacity. In addition to earning the EnergyStar designation, the washing machine uses 70 percent less water and 66 percent less energy then traditional pre-2004 top loading washers. Along with 13 washing cycles, the washing machine has an extra rinse option, softener dispenser, temperature settings and infinite speed motor. As of 2011, the price of the Maytag washing machine is $1,000.
