Spray Plants With Dish Soap

Spray Plants With Dish Soap

Insects are a problem in almost any garden. Young plants stand almost no chance against a bug infestation, and the crops of older plants can be completely destroyed by insects. An easy alternative to chemical pesticides is a mixture of dish soap and water. While the soapy water does not prevent an infestation, it does kill the insects on contact. After a couple applications, the insects will learn your garden is unsafe and move on to a new location.

Instructions

1. Rinse out a spray bottle to remove any residue from its original contents. This is especially important if it contained chemical cleaning agents as certain chemicals can damage the plants.

2. Pour 3 cups of warm water in the spray bottle. If necessary, use a funnel to make it easier.

3. Add 1 tsp. of liquid dish soap to the bottle and shake it for 10 seconds.

4. Spray the soapy water on the plants. Be sure to get the tops and bottoms of the leaves and the stems.

5. Repeat every three to four days. Use a fresh batch of soapy water each time you spray the plants.
